Guehi did not foresee that the move to Liverpool would collapse. |
According to The Times , Guehi felt he had acted properly and professionally for Crystal Palace amid speculation over his future, but the club's decision to block the move left him shocked.
The Crystal Palace captain believes he deserves better treatment from the club, having even completed part of his medical and recorded a farewell video for Palace fans, in preparation for a move to Liverpool – a club the centre-back sees as a chance to realise his dream of playing at a higher level.
However, manager Oliver Glasner was determined to block the deal, threatening to resign if Guehi was sold without a suitable replacement. Crystal Palace were unable to sign other top targets, leading chairman Steve Parish to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute, despite having filed a transfer declaration before the deadline.
Guehi is expected to make an official statement this week, to express his views on the matter. With his contract expiring in June 2026, Liverpool are believed to be ready to come back with a lower offer or wait to sign him for free next summer.
