According to the Quang Ngai Province Hydrometeorological Station, rainfall continues to increase and last for many days, posing a high risk of flash floods, landslides and deep flooding in low-lying areas along rivers.
From last night to the afternoon of October 20, the eastern Truong Son region had heavy rain, many places had very heavy rain with strong thunderstorms. The rainfall was generally from 100-210 mm, in some places it exceeded 240 mm. Some roads were flooded locally. The water level on the Tra Cau River fluctuated around the alarm level 2. According to the assessment of the professional agency, this is only the first stage of the heavy rain.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Director of the Hydrometeorological Station of Quang Ngai province, commented: “This is a rather special and large amount of rainfall during the early Northeast monsoon season. We believe that in the coming days, due to the combined effects of storm No. 12 and the strengthening cold air, there will continue to be moderate to heavy rain over a wide area in Quang Ngai province. Especially in the mountainous and eastern regions, the rainfall may last from the 22nd to the end of the 28th, reaching 500-600 mm, in some places such as the area bordering Co Ma Long commune, Tra Bong, it may be over 700 mm”.
Storm No. 12 is still moving in a complicated manner and is likely to directly affect the Central mainland, including Quang Ngai. It is forecasted that by the evening of October 23, the storm will weaken into a low pressure area in the coastal area of Da Nang - Quang Ngai. At the same time, strong cold air from the North will flow down, interacting with the storm circulation, causing this area to suffer heavy rain for many consecutive days. These two dangerous weather patterns at the same time will increase the risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and serious flooding in low-lying areas along rivers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Director of the Hydrometeorological Station of Quang Ngai province, said: " Regarding landslides, most of the communes in the mountainous areas, including the communes in the transition zone between the East and West Truong Son, including the communes of the old Cung province as well as the current old Quang Ngai province, are at high risk of landslides due to the rainfall lasting for many days. As for the flooded areas, the flooding is mainly concentrated in the lower reaches of the Tra Khuc, Tra Bong, Tra Cau river basins, especially the Tra Khuc river basin."
This heavy rain is expected to be intense, long-lasting and complex. Localities in the province need to raise their vigilance to the highest level and prepare for the “4 on-site” plan, especially in mountainous and riverside areas. Proactive prevention and early response are key factors to ensure people’s safety and minimize damage.
