Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Duong Thi Nhu Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Vinh Long province, emphasized that the demand for high-quality medical human resources in the country in general and Vinh Long province in particular is very large. Cuu Long University has an important position in providing this human resource. With the attention and direction of leaders at all levels, the determination of Cuu Long University, and the coordination of the health sector, the school will train a medical human resource team that is sufficient in quantity, strong in quality, and firmly integrated into the international community, meeting the integration requirements and serving well the work of protecting and caring for people's health.

Meritorious teacher, Associate Professor, Dr. Luong Minh Cu, Party Secretary, President of Cuu Long University analyzed that the Mekong Delta is a region with a large population, large area, difficult socio-economic conditions, while the demand for health care is increasing. Universities and colleges in the region have been expanding health training to provide local medical human resources. However, in general, medical training facilities in the Mekong Delta still face great challenges.
The workshop aims to create opportunities for exchanging and connecting knowledge between scientists in the field of health sciences. In particular, in the context of integration, health training is one of the key tasks of universities in Vietnam, contributing to improving the quality of health training, serving the needs of society.

Cuu Long University is one of the typical higher education institutions in the Mekong Delta region, a pioneer in developing the health sector. The school has established the Faculty of Health Sciences with major training majors such as: Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Rehabilitation Technology and short-term training programs to continuously update medical knowledge for medical staff/workers in the Mekong Delta in particular and the whole country in general. Improving the quality of health sector training is not only an urgent task, but also a long-term strategy for Cuu Long University to affirm its position, meet the expectations of society and contribute to people's health care in the new era.
“The school focuses on investing in facilities and practical equipment such as chemistry and biology laboratories, pharmacy practice rooms and gradually forming clinical skills simulation rooms. Cuu Long University has established cooperative relationships with hospitals inside and outside Vinh Long province, helping students have early access to the real environment,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Minh Cu, Party Secretary and Principal of Cuu Long University, emphasized.

Cuu Long University has a scale of nearly 40,000 students, 38 undergraduate training majors, many postgraduate training majors. In which, the health science sector has 9 undergraduate training majors: Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Rehabilitation Technology; 6 postgraduate training majors: Master/Specialist level 1 in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy.
The total number of students in the health sciences sector is more than 12,000, including both Vietnamese and international students. The total number of lecturers in the sector is 600, of which 42% have a doctorate/secondary specialist degree or higher. Therefore, it is very necessary to develop health sciences training programs that are suitable for the Mekong Delta region but still globalized and meet national and international accreditation requirements.
