On October 18, Da Nang City Police confirmed that the information circulating on social media about a new student being kidnapped and taken to Cambodia is false.
Previously, on social networks, a post appeared with many "illustrative" images claiming that a new student of the University of Education (Da Nang University) in Hoa Khanh ward, Da Nang city was allegedly tricked into renting a room online, then drugged; when he woke up, the student discovered he was in Cambodia and his family was asked to pay 250 million VND as ransom... The post also said that this student was imprisoned, tortured and beaten.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Hoa Khanh Ward Police coordinated with professional units and the school's Board of Directors to urgently verify. The results showed that all students of the school were safe, there were no cases of kidnapping or loss of contact as the content spread on social networks. The class list also did not include the student named "Tin" mentioned in the articles.
Da Nang City Police confirmed that there was no student kidnapping incident, this is fabricated information, causing public panic. Currently, Hoa Khanh Ward Police are coordinating with professional units to track down the person spreading the fake news to handle according to the law.
The police recommend that people, officials, lecturers and students need to raise awareness when using social networks: do not share, comment or spread unverified information; at the same time, need to immediately notify the authorities when discovering false information for timely handling.
