“Men Tinh” is an artistic journey where artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong explores the depth of emotions and national cultural memories through Do paper – a traditional material typical of Vietnam.

With modest yet delicate size, each work evokes the harmony between human emotions, indigenous culture and modern breath.

The exhibition introduces a series of paintings featuring wine bottles, red cloth, and time-stained wooden boards – everyday images that contain symbols of love, memory, and connection.

The works represent two parallel worlds : one quiet and profound and one vibrant and brilliant, reflecting the artist's perspective on love, people and contemporary cities.

Sharing about the exhibition, artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong said that he was born in the highlands, so the unique cultural features of the mountains left a deep impression on him. The exhibition “Men Tinh” is the result of his field trip to the mountains, with very familiar images associated with the lives of the mountain people.

The exhibition has two sections, one about indigenous culture, and one about the integration of indigenous culture in modern life.

Artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong said that in the exhibition, there are many works about love between couples, but there are many works that he wants to express the bond between families, blending in many things, from lines, colors to drawings. That is what he wants to express most in the exhibition, and is the depth of a warm and happy life, which he sees most clearly in the lives of mountain people or modern people.

Regarding materials, artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong said he uses the most rustic things: “I choose Do paper – a traditional Vietnamese material – as a basis for my creations. The rustic surface of the paper helps the image become both illusory and marked by time, blending with the strong colors and lines of urban life.”

At first, he expressed himself with single colors, but later he realized that painting single colors on Do paper was no longer rustic but still retained modern colors. “The beauty of Do paper is that it is traditional but can still integrate and express modernity, thanks to the way I express modern means through it,” the artist said.

The exhibition takes place from October 17 to 27 at Area 75 Art Center - Art & Auction at 75 Hang Bo, Hanoi .

Area 75 – Art & Auction is a contemporary art space in the heart of Hanoi, connecting artists, collectors and art lovers through exhibitions, auctions and creative activities.

Born in 1963, Nguyen Tuan Cuong graduated from the Central College of Music and Art Education (now the Central University of Art Education) in 1989 and the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2006.
