Ask Mr. Tung, how long has the hobby of collecting QĐND Newspaper been around, so that now he has a "fortune" - almost all issues of QĐND Newspaper from the first days of the Newspaper's establishment until now? Mr. Tung shared: "When I was a child, in the early 1980s, my house was in the center of Hanoi, every morning my father sent me to buy newspapers. With QĐND Newspaper, I really liked reading information and pictures about the military. In addition, the news and articles published in QĐND Newspaper were analyzed very sharply by the writers, from history to political , military, international, cultural issues...". Mr. Tung was aware of the need to archive QĐND Newspapers very early, in the early 1990s there was a small "library" corner of QĐND Newspaper.

Mr. Tran Thanh Tung with the People's Army Newspaper copies that his family collected and preserved.

The passion for collecting the People's Army Newspaper has been burning ever since Mr. Tung met Ms. Nguyen My Trang, granddaughter of journalist and poet Tham Tam (real name Nguyen Tuan Trinh) - one of the journalist-martyrs of the People's Army Newspaper. In the family of martyr Tham Tam at that time, Mr. Tung's father-in-law, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoa - the only son of poet Tham Tam, was always anxious to find his father's grave and his father's works. During the journey with his family, Mr. Tung had the opportunity to meet his grandfather's comrades and comrades, and from then on, the People's Army Newspaper collection became increasingly dense with copies of the newspaper from the early days, along with works of poet and journalist Tham Tam printed separately or jointly with other authors.

Mr. Tung said: “With the nature of my work in communications, I have had many business trips abroad. There was a time when I went to European countries, and wherever I went, the first place I went was museums, libraries or archives to learn, and maybe I would find valuable works by Mr. Tham Tam. Once, while I was working in Europe, a friend told me that there was a collector in the US who was keeping some of Mr. Tham Tam's poems. I went to the American scholar to ask for permission to take pictures; then there were many newspapers called Ve Quoc Quan - the predecessor of the QĐND Newspaper - that still contained Mr. Tham Tam's works, for example, the Ve Quoc Quan issue published on July 27, 1948 had an illustration on the front page drawn by Mr. Tham Tam that our family collected. Up to now, our family is very happy because with the help of the National Library of Vietnam, the National Library of France and many other organizations and individuals, we have collected more than 200 of his works in many genres. From short stories, poems, novels, plays, sketches... Along with that, I have collected almost all issues of the People's Army newspaper published in the past 75 years."

“My family is very respectful and proud every time we come to house number 7 Phan Dinh Phung - the address of the People's Army Newspaper's editorial office, step into the newspaper's traditional room, and see the image of my grandfather Tham Tam and the journalists-martyrs in the memorial space, along with the images, documents, and artifacts that have contributed to the precious tradition of journalists-soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army. Recently, I was also very happy when the People's Army Newspaper gave me a book of 33 issues of the People's Army Newspaper made directly at the Dien Bien Phu Front, associated with the glorious victory of our army and people,” said Mr. Tung.
