FPT University cooperates with FIRST to organize the international robot tournament FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam to select a regional team to compete globally in April 2024.
According to the cooperation agreement, FPT University will organize a robot competition according to the format and standards of FIRST (USA) in Vietnam - FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam (FTC Vietnam) in February 2024. The tournament is for students from grades 7 to 12 nationwide, participating in groups of 3-15 members and a professional advisor (mentor).
Teams can request to use some basic equipment similar to international standards from the organizers (basic KIT equipment including control circuit, motor, sensor); freely apply knowledge, programming skills, mechanical structure... to design robot products to solve the problems from the organizers.
This year, FIRST has the theme “Young Generation Creates the Future” and challenges FIRST in show. Teams participating in the competition must design robots that can draw pictures, do creative work with humans, and even “play” with paper airplanes created by the teams themselves.
In the end, FTC Vietnam will select the best team (Inspire Award) to represent the country to compete at the global FIRST Tech Challenge, held in the US in April 2024.
To support middle and high school students nationwide to access the tournament, FPT University organizes the Vietnam Open Robotics Challenge (VORC) program with testing locations and support areas at 5 campuses: Hanoi , Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City.
Students at high schools are trained and familiarized with robots in a simpler, online simulation format. Teams that win high prizes in regional rounds will receive support with standard robot components and funding to participate in the official FTC round in Hanoi in February 2024.
In recent years, many Vietnamese student teams have achieved good results in global robotics competitions. Experts assess that Vietnam has strong development in information technology, possesses a potential young workforce, and is capable of applying high technologies such as AI, Big Data, etc. or trending industries such as chips and semiconductors.
“Through competition, training, and experience of technology in general and robotics according to national and international standards in particular, Vietnamese students will have more opportunities to study, improve their knowledge and skills, and unleash their creativity and development potential in this field,” said a representative of FPT University.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international youth non-profit organization, founded in 1989. The organization runs the FIRST Robotics Challenge, FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST LEGO League Challenge... Every year, the organization's tournaments gather nearly one million students worldwide from more than 100 countries.
