This is the first workshop in a series of intensive training programs on AI applications, representing a pivotal step in PVEP's comprehensive digital transformation journey in the period 2025-2030. In which, AI is approached not as a single technology, but as a new operating philosophy - taking AI as a foundation for thinking and implementation tools at all levels of the organization.
PVEP re-establishes AI's position in development strategy
Based on the specific operational practices with high technical level, unsynchronized data and workload ranging from exploration and exploitation to management and administration, PVEP is facing a great opportunity to exploit new values through data and artificial intelligence. The comprehensive modernization orientation to 2030 requires not only upgrading technology or processes, but also building internal digital capabilities - where AI is considered one of the strategic pillars, promoting efficiency, improving the quality of decision making and creating a more flexible operating model.

In his opening remarks, PVEP General Director Nguyen Thien Bao shared a candid perspective from practical experience: AI is only effective when fed with accurate data and guided by the right questions. During the implementation process at PVEP, many tasks such as document extraction, technical analysis or report summarization have clearly demonstrated the ability to save time, improve productivity and support faster and more accurate decision making.
PVEP General Director Nguyen Thien Bao delivered the opening speech, emphasizing the role of data in effectively exploiting artificial intelligence in enterprises.
Mr. Bao also cited an impressive scenario he witnessed in the US, where an AI system specializing in oil field analysis not only responded to operational assumptions but also made optimal recommendations based on real-time data. This is the direction that PVEP is pursuing - using AI as a partner to accompany experts, not to replace humans. The cooperation with FPT in this journey plays an important role, providing a technology platform, approach and practical implementation experience for the Vietnamese business environment.
PVEP leaders share their views on the role of data and AI applications in operational management at oil and gas enterprises. Instead of stopping at applying discrete tools, PVEP chose a systematic approach - laying the foundation for AI-First thinking to be instilled from leaders to each specialized department. This is also an important starting step for the process of integrating AI deeply into actual operations, creating sustainable value instead of short-term effects.
Mastering AI at Work Step by Step
The workshop was designed in a 5-part content model, following each other from fundamental theory to practical tools and methods applied directly to daily work. In each part, FPT speakers guided the PVEP team through each layer of thinking and action, from AI-First, GenAI, "smart assignment" prompting techniques to AI to standardizing the AI application process. In particular, the AI-First Deployment - Opportunities, challenges and next steps section designed by FPT helps lay the foundation for a long-term transformation strategy, with specific recommendations on training, data infrastructure investment, and AI deployment models in each phase of PVEP.
Mr. Vuong Quan Ngoc, Consulting Director of FPT Digital - FPT Corporation emphasized: "AI helps work faster and more productively, but the results still need human direction. The AI revolution is essentially a revolution in thinking. In which, the role of leadership is a lighthouse to ensure that the organization does not deviate from its strategic goals."
FPT Digital Consulting Director - FPT Corporation Vuong Quan Ngoc shares about AI-First thinking and the leading role of leaders in the artificial intelligence revolution.
Mr. Ngoc analyzed that not only GenAI like ChatGPT is useful, but narrow AI models are the main driving force. From camera surveillance systems, material management, to seismic analysis, reservoir structure prediction, etc. are all specific tasks that narrow AI models can help PVEP accelerate strongly.
GenAI is an effective tool if used correctly.
Dr. Nguyen Nhu Khoa, AI expert at FPT, focused on the instructions for applying GenAI in business management and operations. According to him, GenAI such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot can support businesses in a series of tasks such as synthesizing reports, creating documents, analyzing information, reviewing content and even simulating decision-making scenarios. “AI answers well when asked good questions – just like a good employee will only do the right thing when the leader clearly assigns tasks,” Mr. Khoa emphasized.

In this content, PVEP staff directly practiced the method of building questions to optimize the response performance from AI. With exercises personalized for each department, learners not only shortened working time but also built AI scenarios suitable for their specific work.
PVEP staff directly discussed with FPT experts about AI application scenarios in each functional block, from E&P engineering to internal management. Through this, many PVEP officers have initially mastered AI in specific tasks such as summarizing technical documents, drafting official dispatches, evaluating contractors, reviewing contracts, or synthesizing financial reports. This is the foundation for PVEP to realize the strategy of "AI serving people", instead of using AI in a discrete or emotional way.
Mr. Ha Quang Thai, Director of AI Consulting FPT Digital - FPT Corporation presented how to standardize the process to deploy AI synchronously and effectively throughout the PVEP system.
Not stopping at the technical part, the training session of Mr. Ha Quang Thai - AI Consulting Director of FPT Digital - FPT Corporation led the participants to identify the importance of standardization in AI deployment. "For AI to bring real value, businesses need to move from sporadic use to integration into the entire end-to-end process," Mr. Thai shared. This includes digitizing documents, creating clean data warehouses, building standard prompt warehouses for each function, and determining KPIs to evaluate AI effectiveness (from accuracy, automation rate to economic value and user satisfaction).
A roadmap with a solid start
From this workshop, the positive signals emerged that PVEP is ready for a new journey – a journey where every decision is guided by data and artificial intelligence.
First, the leadership has officially established an AI-First mindset, comprehensively trained personnel, and built a standardized data platform as a foundation for all future AI applications.
Second, the department's human resources team has initially grasped basic GenAI tools and how to interact effectively with AI, as well as clearly recognized values such as saving time, improving output quality, increasing initiative and self-learning.
Third, the entire organization has moved from “hearing about AI” to “working with AI.” Scenarios such as: AI summarizing meeting minutes, creating financial reports, supporting document error checking, processing bidding documents, or even supporting internal communications – are all simulated and practiced right in the workshop.
The first workshop not only provided basic knowledge about AI, but also served as a launch pad for a series of specialized training programs being implemented by PVEP. Following this success, in the coming time, the next two workshops will focus on AI applications in core areas: from oil and gas exploration and exploitation (for E&P technical staff), to management and operation (for non-technical staff). Each workshop not only aims to popularize tools, but also helps each group of personnel at PVEP master practical situations, thereby making AI a part of the organization's daily operations.
PVEP leaders believe that after this series of workshops, PVEP will truly create a comprehensive transformation in thinking, laying the foundation to gradually put AI into practical operation. In the coming period, PVEP will continue to replicate the AI-First training model for all staff, and at the same time test AI initiatives in key departments. The goal is not only to "know AI" but to "master AI", thereby building a digital culture in which each individual is a factor in creating new value through data and technology.
PVEP and FPT took a souvenir photo after the workshop, marking an important milestone in the journey of cooperation in digital transformation and AI application.
The June 13 workshop was not only an event marking a step forward in PVEP's digitalization strategy, but also a clear demonstration of how an oil and gas enterprise - operating in a high-tech and traditional field - can approach AI in a systematic, practical and effective way right from the beginning.
In an era where data is the new oil, AI is the smart rig to exploit knowledge. And PVEP, with a clear strategic direction and a team ready to act, is ready for a new journey – a journey where every decision is no longer based on luck, but guided by data and artificial intelligence.
