Honey pineapple growing model - an open direction for hilly areas
Tram Than has a large area of hilly land, which is an advantage for developing commodity agriculture. Realizing this potential, the locality has mobilized people to change the structure of crops and seasons in an effective and suitable direction to natural conditions. The commune government coordinates with specialized agencies to organize training courses, transfer scientific and technical advances, and guide farmers to apply new technologies in cultivation, livestock and aquaculture. The commune has issued a Resolution on developing agricultural, forestry and fishery production to promote restructuring of the agricultural economy associated with building advanced new rural areas. In particular, focusing on developing products with potential, advantages, competitiveness, high added value, and environmental friendliness; maintaining and improving product quality and developing OCOP product brands; building and developing agricultural product brands; at the same time promoting linkages and cooperation in production chains; developing livestock farming in the direction of concentrated farms and ranches.
If in the past, the commune's agricultural production mainly depended on traditional crops such as rice, corn, and cassava, now there has been a clear change. Many households have boldly invested in higher value crops such as: pink bananas, green-skinned grapefruit, winter vegetables, and especially pineapple - a type of plant that is being piloted by the locality.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, honey pineapple was planted on a pilot scale on an area of 10 hectares. This pineapple variety has the advantage of being easy to grow, drought-resistant, has few pests and diseases, is suitable for local soil conditions, and at the same time gives high yield, sweet and fragrant fruit, and is favored by the market.

Pilot model of growing honey pineapple on an area of 2 hectares of Mr. Nguyen Tieu Thien's household in zone 6 Trung Giap.
Mr. Nguyen Tieu Thien's family in Trung Giap area 6 is one of the pioneers participating in this model. Mr. Thien said: Previously, on the hilly land, I planted acacia and eucalyptus with low efficiency. My family researched the local areas where pineapples were grown and found that pineapples grow well on sloping hills, have high productivity, delicious fruit quality, and bring stable economic efficiency, so I started to plant pineapples on an area of 2 hectares with 50,000 seedlings. Currently, my family's pineapples are growing well.
According to Mr. Thien, honey pineapple weighs about 2kg/fruit, has thin skin, small core, is juicy, has delicious flavor, is suitable for mixing soft drinks, so it is favored by many beverage businesses. In terms of value, if other pineapple varieties cost 3-4 thousand VND/kg, honey pineapple costs about 10 thousand VND/kg. Normally, a batch of honey pineapple will be harvested in 3-4 years, depending on the level of care, soil quality, durability of the tree... The time from when honey pineapple flowers to harvest is 4 months.
The initial success of the model has opened up a new direction for the hilly area which has been ineffective in traditional production. The commune continues to expand the area of honey pineapple cultivation to 100 hectares, while encouraging people to convert from mixed gardens and ineffective hilly garden land to pineapple cultivation to increase income, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
Creating sustainable livelihoods for people
Along with cultivation, Tram Than commune also focuses on developing the seedling production industry. The commune encourages households to build a system of high-tech greenhouses to produce seedlings. At the same time, it strengthens management and strictly handles the production and trading of plant varieties of unknown origin. The commune also creates favorable conditions for production households to establish production and trading cooperatives, becoming a reliable address for members to exchange and share experiences and techniques, contributing to building a brand of quality seedlings, ensuring healthy competition in the market.

The tree nursery profession in Tram Than commune has brought a stable source of income for more than 200 households.
Mr. Nghiem Khac Dai in Tram Than area 1 is a relatively large seedling producer with about 1 million trees/year. Mr. Dai said: With nearly 10 years of seedling production, I have experience in care as well as understanding the technical process of tree planting, understanding market demand, having many regular customers, so this job is profitable. Compared to doing agricultural economics, each year, after deducting expenses, my family earns about 100 million VND.
It can be seen that the nursery production in the commune brings clear economic efficiency and creates jobs for farmers. The types of trees that are nursed are mainly forestry varieties such as: Eucalyptus, Acacia auriculiformis, Lava, Xoan, Fat, Bodhi, Cinnamon... The whole commune has more than 200 households, 5 enterprises, 3 cooperatives producing and trading seedlings. Each year, the seedling production and trading establishments supply the market with about 3 - 3.5 million quality seedlings, according to the right techniques; the revenue from production is estimated at 10 billion VND/year, creating jobs for hundreds of rural workers, with an average income of 6 - 8 million VND/person/month.
The development of agriculture, forestry and fishery is identified by Tram Than commune as an important pillar in the economic structure. With the orientation of sustainable development, the Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune encourage people to apply the integrated economic model: Forestry - livestock - fish farming to make the most of the potential of land and water resources. Currently, the commune has many households that have invested in raising tilapia, grass carp, common carp, and catfish in intensive and semi-intensive forms.
In the coming time, the commune will continue to review the land fund, encourage people to convert ineffective farming areas to high-value crops; expand the pineapple growing model and bio-safe aquaculture. At the same time, encourage businesses to invest in processing agricultural products locally to increase value, create jobs, and raise income for people.
Thanks to the synchronous participation of the entire political system and the innovative spirit of the people, Tram Than commune is gradually affirming its position as a dynamic agricultural area. The barren hills and high, abandoned fields without agricultural production are now covered with green pineapples, acacia forests and rich fish ponds. This achievement is a testament to the practical effectiveness of the specialized Resolution on the development of agricultural, forestry and fishery production - a resolution that has been breathing new life into Tram Than's homeland, helping people to be confident on the path of building a new, prosperous and sustainable rural area.
