Cuu Long University was established on January 5, 2000, the first private university in the Mekong Delta. When it was first established, the school had 13 undergraduate training majors in 5 specialized faculties. In the first course, the school enrolled more than 1,000 students.

Continuously develop training scale

In the early days of its establishment, the school faced many difficulties in terms of facilities, having to rent 5 locations in Vinh Long Town (old) to organize teaching. In September 2003, Cuu Long University was officially inaugurated and moved to a new headquarters located on Highway 1, Phuoc Yen A Hamlet, Phu Quoi Commune, Vinh Long (previously Phu Quoi Commune, Long Ho District, Vinh Long).

By 2025, the school will expand its enrollment to 38 training majors, with nearly 90 undergraduate majors in four main fields, including: Health Sciences; Social Sciences and Humanities; Engineering - Technology; Economics - Finance. For the postgraduate level, the school trains 11 master's degree majors and three first-level specialized majors (Nursing; Medical Technology specializing in testing; Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy). For the doctoral level, the school trains four majors, including: Business Administration; Finance and Banking; Food Technology and Vietnamese Literature. In particular, the school has trained more than 700 international students, contributing to providing high-quality human resources for the two neighboring countries of Laos and Cambodia.

In addition, the school also expands training forms such as: 2nd degree, distance learning, work-study. Providing high-quality human resources to serve the needs of industrialization and modernization of the country.

By the end of 2024, Cuu Long University will enroll 32 majors with about 80 undergraduate training majors, with a training scale of more than 28,000 students. Up to now (October 2025), the school enrolls 38 majors with about 90 undergraduate training majors, raising the training scale to about 40,000 students, an increase of nearly 42% compared to the same period in 2024.

At the same time, the school has continuously invested in modern facilities and equipment to serve teaching and learning in the most optimal way. The school is about to complete the construction of an 8-storey Health Science building with an investment capital of about 150 billion VND. In the near future, the school will build new buildings for Economics, Social Sciences and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, etc.

Cuu Long University identifies improving the quality of training as a key step. In particular, the teaching staff resource is the decisive factor in affirming the position and reputation of the school. Currently, the school has about 1,217 staff and lecturers. Of which, there are about 70 professors, associate professors; 241 doctors; 447 masters; nearly 300 doctors and pharmacists specialized in level I, specialized in level II.
