Ham Rong High School won the 23rd Road to Olympia Championship

Unexpectedly turning the tide, Le Xuan Manh (Ham Rong High School, Thanh Hoa province) won the 23rd Olympic championship.

On the morning of October 8, the final match of the Road to Olympia 2023 competition took place. In addition to the main broadcast location at Studio S14 of Vietnam Television, the program also has 4 broadcast locations in Hanoi , Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa and Thua Thien Hue.

The champion of the 23rd Road to Olympia will receive the biggest prize ever with a 24k gold-plated laurel wreath and a prize worth 50,000 USD.

After dramatic Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly competitions, Road to Olympia 2023 finally reached the yearly finals with the 4 best contestants: Nguyen Viet Thanh (Soc Son High School, Hanoi), Nguyen Minh Triet (Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien - Hue Province), Le Xuan Manh (Ham Rong High School, Thanh Hoa Province) and Nguyen Trong Thanh (Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong City).

In the Warm-up round, after 3 rounds of questions, Trong Thanh temporarily took the lead with 65 points, Minh Triet and Viet Thanh both had 30 points, and Xuan Manh had 10 points.

In the Olympia 2023 final Obstacle Race , the keyword to be found was 15 letters. Right at the first question, Minh Triet gave the correct answer "nature". Right after finishing the first question, Viet Thanh quickly pressed the bell to win the right to answer the keyword. He gave the correct answer "Renewable energy".

It was his calmness, confidence, intelligence and decisiveness that helped Viet Thanh rise to the top of the mountain with 70 points. Following closely behind Viet Thanh were Trong Thanh with 65 points, Minh Triet with 40 points and Xuan Manh with 10 points.

The Speed Test consists of 4 questions, with 30 seconds to think each question. The fastest and most correct answer gets 40 points, the second fastest and most correct answer gets 30 points, then gradually decreases to 20 and 10 points.

The first question asked the contestants to choose the correct way to escape in case of a fire. All four contestants answered correctly, giving the same answer: using wet towels to block the cracks in the door to prevent smoke from entering the house, using the fire escape, and bending over to avoid smoke. Viet Thanh was the fastest, earning an additional 40 points; Trong Thanh 30, Xuan Manh 20 and Minh Triet 10 points.

The second question required four candidates to fill in the names of the points that determine the baselines to calculate the breadth of the territorial waters. The four candidates gave three different answers. Only Xuan Manh and Trong Thanh answered correctly. Xuan Manh got 40 more points. Trong Thanh got 30 more points.

Question 3 gave five clues and asked the contestants to find a three-digit code. This was a difficult question for the contestants. All four climbers failed to get the correct answer.

The final question of the Speed up round required finding a character from the suggested images of the program. The answer was military man Tran Dai Nghia, the year 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of his birth. The fastest answerer won 40 points, Trong Thanh got 30 points, Xuan Manh got 30 points, Minh Triet got 20 points, and Viet Thanh got 10 points.

After this competition, Trong Thanh led the mountain climbing team with 165 points; Viet Thanh ranked second with 120 points; followed by Xuan Manh with 100 points and Minh Triet with 70 points.

Entering the Finishing Round, based on the scores from the previous rounds, Trong Thanh - Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong City was the first contestant to reach the finish line. He chose 3 questions worth 20 points. In the first question, Trong Thanh answered incorrectly and lost 20 points. Viet Thanh won the right to answer correctly and was awarded 20 points.

Trong Thanh's second question was in English. The English major student could not give the correct answer and continued to lose 20 points. Minh Triet had the right to answer and was awarded an additional 20 points.

The third question was about chemistry, Trong Thanh used the star of hope and answered correctly about the compound but did not state the molecular formula. Viet Thanh took the right to answer and named the molecular formula of the two compounds. The program's MC thought that Trong Thanh had not answered correctly the question's requirements.

The Hai Phong male student made a request and the Advisory Board determined that Trong Thanh had the correct answer. Viet Thanh made a request and it was rejected. Thus, with the correct answer, Trong Thanh won 40 points, keeping the original score of 165.

Viet Thanh - Soc Son High School, Hanoi - with 140 points, was the second contestant to advance to the Finish Line round. After a moment of thinking, Viet Thanh proposed a strategy of choosing a question package of 30-20-20 points. For the first question, Viet Thanh did not have the correct answer and Trong Thanh quickly pressed the bell to answer and got the correct answer.

Question 2, Viet Thanh decided to choose the star of hope. However, Viet Thanh answered incorrectly and lost 20 points. Once again, Trong Thanh had the right to answer and received 20 points for himself, reaching 215 points. The score was quite different from the other 3 contestants.

In the last question, Viet Thanh answered correctly and finished the test with 110 points. But the male student was quite sad when he only had 110 points left after this test.

Xuan Manh - Ham Rong High School, Thanh Hoa province is the third contestant in the Finish Line section who chose the 30-30-30 point question package. In the first question, Xuan Manh answered correctly and won 30 points. In the second question, Xuan Manh answered incorrectly. Viet Thanh answered incorrectly and had 95 points left. In the third question, Xuan Manh chose the star of hope and answered correctly, ending his contest with 190 points.

Minh Triet - Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien - Hue province is the last contestant to reach the Finish Line round. The male student currently has the lowest score and has decided to take the 3-question 30-point package. In the first question, Minh Triet quickly gave the correct answer.

But for the second question, the male student could not give the correct answer. Xuan Manh pressed the bell to answer, and gave the correct answer, winning 30 points, helping the contestant gain 220 points, surpassing Trong Thanh - who had the highest score.

Coming to the last question, something unprecedented happened. Minh Triet decided not to give an answer, giving the opportunity to Xuan Manh and Trong Thanh to compete. Trong Thanh quickly pressed the bell to get the chance, however, the male student could not give the correct answer.

At the end of the competition, with 220 points, Le Xuan Manh (Ham Rong High School, Thanh Hoa province) had the highest score and won the laurel wreath of the Road to Olympia 2023 competition./
