Posthumous promotion for Major who died saving drowning people

On September 2, the Military Command of Song Cau Town (Military Command of Phu Yen Province) announced that the Minister of National Defense has decided to posthumously promote to Lieutenant Colonel the rank of Major Truong Hong Ky, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Military Command of Song Cau Town, who died while bravely saving two local people from drowning.

Accordingly, Decision No. 88/QDT-BQT signed by General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, posthumously promoted officer rank from Major to Lieutenant Colonel for comrade Truong Hong Ky before term.

Lieutenant Colonel Truong Hong Ky, born September 2, 1981; enlisted in 2002. Hometown: Xuan Thinh commune, Song Cau town, Phu Yen province.

At 4:30 p.m. on September 1, 2023, while inspecting the areas, when arriving at Dong Be beach (in Vinh Hoa hamlet, Xuan Thinh commune, Song Cau town, Phu Yen province), discovering 2 people being swept away from shore by waves, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Hong Ky swam out to save them.

After rescuing two people, Tran Phan Minh Thien (born in 2008) and Nguyen Ngoc Tuan (born in 1983), to shore, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Hong Ky was exhausted and was swept away by the waves.

Although local people helped bring him ashore and took him to Song Cau Town Medical Center for emergency treatment, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Hong Ky died.
