The incident began when Arsenal announced the £50 million signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea on the evening of July 19. In a series of images shared to introduce this new player, the online community discovered Cristhian Mosquera wearing an Arsenal shirt, giving an interview in the same context as the introduction.
The photo was quickly removed, but it was enough to spark a wave of discussion. Many accounts specializing in following Arsenal confirmed that this could be a media error when accidentally publishing the image of an unannounced contract. However, this "incident" also accidentally confirmed that Mosquera was in London and preparing to debut for the "Gunners".
According to British media, Arsenal will pay around €20 million (£17.3 million) for this deal. The 21-year-old has made 90 appearances for Valencia and is a Spain U21 international. He is considered an ideal backup for the Saliba-Gabriel central defender pair, and can also play at right-back if needed.
Arsenal went on a shopping spree in the summer of 2025, completing five new signings early. Before Madueke and Mosquera, the Emirates club announced three signings, including Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres is also said to have agreed a deal to join Arsenal in a transfer worth around £60m. According to The Athletic , Arsenal's total spending this summer has hit £200m.
