According to a VNA correspondent in Havana, Cuba's Latin American news agency Prensa Latina published an article on April 30, titled "Vietnam shines red to celebrate the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day," highlighting the image of red flags with yellow stars flying all over the streets to celebrate the Total Victory Day on April 30, 1975.
In the article, author Moisés Pérez Mok - Chief of Prensa Latina's permanent office in Hanoi - expressed his impression of the atmosphere celebrating the day of national reunification, the unification of the country that the entire Vietnamese people have been waiting for for decades.
Giant posters and many cultural activities were held to commemorate the event 49 years ago, while conveying historical values and the spirit of national unity to the younger generation.
Journalist Moisés Pérez Mok said this was also an occasion to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland. Leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State visited the families of war invalids, martyrs, and people with revolutionary contributions on this important holiday.
Prensa Latina affirmed that the April 30, 1975 victory is a clear demonstration of the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the fight against foreign invaders.
The article emphasized: “This event ended the domination of imperialism and feudalism in Vietnam, ended the people's national democratic revolution, unified the country and opened a new era in Vietnam. The whole country began to move towards socialism together.”
According to the Latin American News Agency, the April 30, 1975 victory entered the history of the Vietnamese nation as one of the most outstanding pages, a brilliant symbol of the victory of revolutionary heroism and human intelligence, and at the same time marked in world history as a great feat of the 20th century.
Prensa Latina cited international media reports highlighting the remarkable economic achievements Vietnam has made since the country's reunification. The Latin American news agency pointed out that the foundation of those advances is the Doi Moi process approved by the 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam . Doi Moi has helped Vietnam gradually change the country's economic structure and promote industrialization and modernization.
By 2019, Vietnam ranked 8th in the world and 2nd in Southeast Asia in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate and was the 22nd largest economy in the world in terms of exports. Vietnam's goal by 2026 is to have the second largest GDP in the region after Indonesia and by the end of 2029 to become the 20th largest economy in the world.
