Keep the fire burning and grow
Through many historical changes, from war, resistance to peace and development, this place has been constantly invested, expanded and upgraded. After 65 years from the first day named Cua Ong Wharf Enterprise to Cua Ong Coal Selection Company - TKV today, the Company has become an irreplaceable symbol in the Vietnam Coal - Mineral industry.
Not only is the Company a large-scale production unit with modern technical and technological capacity, it is also the first unit in the Quang Ninh Mining Region to have an individual awarded the title of "Hero of Labor", and the collective has been honored twice as "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" and "Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period" in 2000. These are worthy recognitions for the continuous efforts of generations of cadres, workers and employees of the unit. The history of the Vietnamese revolutionary movement has recorded the feat of comrade Ngo Huy Tang - an outstanding worker - who heroically hung the red hammer and sickle flag on the Poóc-tích Bridge No. 1 on the night of November 6-7, 1929, creating a milestone in the history of the struggle of the working class. After 1955, when the Mining Region was liberated, engineers and mine workers restored the screening system. One of the typical examples is Labor Hero Le Van Hien, who directly directed the restoration of the power grid and equipment in less than 30 days - a feat praised by Uncle Ho.
August 20, 1960 marked an important turning point: From a workshop of Cam Pha Mine, Ben Cua Ong Enterprise was established, with 1,629 employees, 7 Party cells, 155 Party members, 2 intermediate cadres, and workers who were mainly ordinary laborers. Under the leadership of the Party, the employees of the Enterprise united, overcame difficulties to work and produce. Following Uncle Ho's teaching "Everyone competes, every industry competes", with coal production campaigns: "Dak To", "For the beloved South"... The Enterprise completed the first 5-year plan (1960-1964) and received a letter of commendation from Uncle Ho and was named on Uncle Ho's rotating award flag.
On August 5, 1964, the US imperialists bombed the North. Following President Ho's call: "Determination to defeat the American invaders", the Enterprise's staff and employees bravely stayed to produce and fight to protect the factory; coordinated with local armed forces to shoot down 8 US planes. In particular, in 1965, after completing the " Dien Bien Phu" coal production campaign plan, the Enterprise's staff and employees were extremely proud and excited to receive a telegram of praise from Uncle Ho.
"Dear workers and cadres of Ben Cua Ong: I am pleased to receive your telegram reporting that you have completed the plan for the first quarter of 1965. I hope that you, taking advantage of that victory, together with other enterprises, will strive to complete even higher plans" (Uncle Ho).
After one victory after another, in 1966, the Nha Si Women's Self-Defense Company was honored by the Party and State with the title "Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces" - the first Heroic Unit of the Mining Region. At the same time, the Enterprise was visited by Prime Minister Pham Van Dong and awarded the Uncle Ho badge to nurse Tran Thi Anh Tuyet - who had sacrificed herself in the rain of bombs and bullets, for 360 days and nights, present at the enemy's key attack points, along with a group of female nurses treating injured workers.
Technological innovation - Production modernization
After the country's renovation, the Company took advantage of every opportunity to upgrade its facilities and invest in selection - screening - mixing technology. In 1991, the enterprise was awarded the First Class Labor Medal and, in particular, in 2000, was honored to receive the title "Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period" - marking a golden mark in the history of development.
Since 2001, the unit has officially changed its name to Cua Ong Coal Selection Company - TKV, under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV). The model conversion helps the company to be more proactive in managing production, finance, labor and investment. The factories are continuously upgraded. In 2009, Coal Selection Factory 1 was upgraded to 3.5 million tons/year. Together with Coal Selection Factory 2 and 3, the total capacity of the company reached more than 12 million tons/year, ensuring a stable source of clean coal for thermal power plants, cement plants, metallurgy plants... In the field of transportation, the company has replaced old locomotives with CK1E Diesel locomotives with a capacity of more than 1,200 horsepower, helping to increase coal pulling output from 6-7 million to more than 12-14 million tons/year.
Contributing to the glorious achievements of the Vietnam Coal - Minerals industry, generations of employees of the Company have made outstanding achievements in the resistance war for national salvation and the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The Party and State have twice awarded the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces; Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period, First Class Independence Medal; First Class Labor Medal, and many other noble titles.
Green development - circular production
Screening plants are continuously invested in and upgraded to modernize. In 2009, Coal Preparation Plant 1 was upgraded to 3.5 million tons/year. Together with Coal Preparation Plants 2 and 3, the total capacity of the company reached more than 12 million tons/year, ensuring a stable source of clean coal for thermal power plants, cement plants, metallurgy plants, etc. In the field of transportation, the company has replaced old locomotives with CK1E Diesel locomotives with a capacity of more than 1,200 horsepower, helping to increase coal pulling output from 6-7 million to more than 12-14 million tons/year.
In particular, the Company is a pioneer in applying 4.0 technology, such as automation, centralized control, software management, helping to reduce labor, increase productivity, while ensuring safety and product quality. In 2020, the Company received and completed Khe Cham Coal Selection Plant (called Coal Selection 4), with a capacity of 7 million tons/year. The plant officially came into operation in February 2021, considered a strategic breakthrough in enhancing the most modern screening capacity in the Northeast region. In the past 5 years alone, the Company has made a breakthrough in the model of mechanization - automation - computerization, digital transformation. More than 3,000 topics, initiatives, and technical improvements have been applied in practice with a value of over 35 billion VND. Entering a new era, the Company has well implemented the motto "Automation - Digitalization - Green Environment - Circular Production". From high-pressure misting systems, circulating water recovery, coal recycling in sludge, to ISO 14001:2015 system, the Company has seriously implemented and applied international environmental standards. In 2015, the Company was the only unit of TKV and Quang Ninh province to be awarded the Vietnam Environment Award.
The lives and incomes of employees in the Company have really changed. If in 2015, the average salary of a new employee was only 6.9 million VND/month, by 2024, the average salary had reached 15.12 million VND/person/month; in the first 6 months of 2025, it reached 14.3 million VND/person/month, equal to 113.5% of the plan.
Comprehensive care for workers' lives
In addition to promoting production development, technological innovation, and environmental protection, Cua Ong Coal Selection Company - TKV also strongly develops corporate culture, builds sports, arts, and internal propaganda movements. In particular, the Vietnam Coal-Minerals women's football team was established and maintained for over 20 years, and is one of the strongest teams in the country today, with many athletes participating in SEA Games, World Cup, etc. Along with that, the Company constantly expands its social responsibility, develops community programs, contributes to local education, improves the quality of life for workers and their families, and develops the model of "enterprise associated with sustainable development" in line with the general orientation of TKV Group.
