On April 30, many leading Japanese media agencies reported on the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) in Vietnam, stating that a large-scale ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City.

NHK reported: “On April 30, 2025, marking 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War, a commemoration ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City in the south. The event not only celebrated the historic victory that forced the withdrawal of US troops and led to the reunification of North and South Vietnam, but Vietnamese leaders also highlighted the impressive economic growth the country has achieved under the leadership of the Communist Party.”

NHK also reported that the ceremony was attended by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, other important members of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the government, as well as representatives from many countries.

NHK quoted General Secretary To Lam's speech highlighting Vietnam's great successes since the war under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Under the headline “Commemoration of ‘Overcoming Past Divisions’ Marks 50th Anniversary of End of Vietnam War, Calls for Reconciliation,” the Asahi newspaper noted that the war divided the country into North and South and left “deep scars.”

The Asahi newspaper specifically quoted General Secretary To Lam's speech highlighting the message of "closing the past, respecting differences, looking toward the future," and calling for solidarity to overcome memories of war.

Describing the atmosphere in Ho Chi Minh City during this important holiday, the Asahi newspaper wrote: “Throughout downtown Ho Chi Minh City, signs and posters celebrating the 50th anniversary of national reunification were solemnly erected. People flocked to the streets, and it was not difficult to see them happily taking souvenir photos with the national flag in their hands."

In an interview with Asahi newspaper, Ms. Do Hanh Tuyet Chinh (27 years old) expressed: "Seeing everyone unite to celebrate this day makes me extremely proud to be Vietnamese."

As a member of the younger generation, she expressed: "This is a precious opportunity for me to understand more deeply the heroic history of the nation and pay tribute to those who heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland."

The Asahi newspaper said the ceremony was held in front of the Reunification Palace with the participation of high-ranking officials from traditional friendly countries, with the aim of inscribing memories of past losses and demonstrating to the international community the development and reconciliation after the war.

On this day, many people in the city wore shirts printed with the national flag, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and national pride.

The Yomiuri newspaper also quoted Vietnamese state media as reporting that the parade had 13,000 participants, including military forces from China, Laos and Cambodia.

Commenting on the Vietnamese people's resistance war against the US to save the country, the Yomiuri newspaper wrote: "In 1965, the US military conducted a large-scale "Bombing the North" bombing campaign against North Vietnam, pushing the country into a full-scale war. However, the US military encountered strong resistance and was finally forced to withdraw in 1973"./.
