What are the regulations on health insurance premiums?

According to the revised Law on Health Insurance, the maximum contribution rate is set at 6% of the reference rate. However, this is only the ceiling allowed within the legal framework, and the specific contribution rate is still proposed by the Ministry of Health to remain at the current level of 4.5%.

Specifically, the current common contribution rate is 4.5% of the basic salary, paid jointly by the employer and employee.

In addition, the monthly contribution of people receiving monthly pension or disability allowance is equal to 4.5% of their pension or disability allowance. The monthly contribution of people receiving unemployment allowance is equal to 4.5% of their unemployment allowance.

For those participating in family health insurance, the first contribution is also 4.5% of the basic salary, which will then be reduced according to the number of family members.

For example, the second person pays 70% of the first level, the third person 60%, the fourth person 50% and from the fifth person onwards only 40%.

So although the new law allows a maximum contribution rate of up to 6%, people currently do not have to worry about an increase in contributions on July 1, because the specific rate is expected to remain at 4.5% as before.

More benefits for health insurance participants

Not only does it maintain a stable contribution rate, the new Health Insurance Law also expands benefits for participants, making the policy more humane and practical.

Specifically, from July 1, health insurance participants will be paid by the health insurance fund for other expenses beyond current regulations such as medical examination and treatment.

Including remote medical examination and treatment, remote medical examination and treatment support, family medical examination and treatment, medical examination and treatment at home, rehabilitation, periodic pregnancy examination, childbirth.

Transporting patients for subjects specifically regulated in case of inpatient or emergency treatment must be transferred to medical examination and treatment facilities according to regulations.

Costs for using medical technical services, drugs, medical equipment, blood, blood products, medical gases, supplies, tools, instruments, and chemicals used in medical examination and treatment are covered by the health insurance fund.

These additions are especially meaningful for the elderly, people with chronic illnesses or people living in remote areas - groups that often have difficulty accessing health services.
