Indeed, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh, a kindergarten teacher at Be Yeu Kindergarten (Ha Lam Ward, Quang Ninh Province), was deeply moved when she woke up and saw her husband beside her. Their daughter, Pham Nhat Linh Dan, was overjoyed, hugging and kissing her father's cheek and chattering excitedly. And then, amidst the happiness of Mr. Huy and Ms. Linh, we heard about their beautiful love story and the hardships they had overcome together.

Coming from the same hometown of Nam Dinh and attending the same high school—he in an upper year, she in a lower year—their acquaintance and secret crush felt natural. When Huy received his acceptance letter to the Naval Academy, Linh was in her final year of high school. In their new environment, they continued to communicate through handwritten letters. After graduating from high school, Linh passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Science and Technology. They maintained a sincere and simple long-distance relationship. After graduation, Huy received a job assignment in Quang Ninh, while Linh was still studying at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
During their courtship, neither of them received support from their families. Linh's parents feared that their daughter would face hardship marrying a soldier who would be away from home frequently. Huy's parents, on the other hand, wanted their son to marry someone from the same neighborhood so that they could easily help with childcare later on. Both had to persistently persuade their parents to protect their love. And then, in early 2020, Pham Huy and Thuy Linh tied the knot.
The early days of their married life were full of difficulties and hardships. When Linh learned she was pregnant, she wanted to tell her husband first, but all she received were long "beep, beep..." sounds on the other end of the line. From the day she became pregnant until she gave birth, Huy only encouraged her over the phone. When their daughter was one month old, an abscess was discovered in her left breast, requiring immediate hospitalization. Throughout the month of treatment at the hospital, Huy was absent due to work commitments. She single-handedly cared for their child while juggling both personal and professional responsibilities. Once their daughter's health stabilized, Linh decided to quit her stable job in Hanoi, bring her daughter back to Quang Ninh, and rent a room so they could be together. While caring for her young child, she enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program at Hai Duong University. The day her daughter turned 18 months old was also the day her husband received his decision to go to Nha Trang for an 8-month advanced training program. Alone in a foreign land, without any close relatives nearby, she struggled to find work, look after her child, and care for her baby. There were times when her child was sick, and then both mother and child were sick, but she would comfort and encourage herself to try and overcome it...
Now, happily watching her daughter play with her father, Linh confided to us: "For me, happiness is those calm days, peaceful seas, or those short leave days when my husband comes home to visit me and our daughter." At such times, the small family is always filled with laughter. Despite the hardships, she is always proud to be the wife of a naval soldier, to contribute a small part in helping him feel secure and confident in protecting the seas and skies of our homeland.
