When we first came to Ha Giang Newspaper, we were told about the veteran Editors-in-Chief of the Newspaper, such as Mr. Pham Kim Quy, with many years of experience as Editor-in-Chief from the Newspaper's inception in 1964 to 1982. In the more than 60-year history of the Newspaper, Mr. Pham Kim Quy was the person with the longest tenure as Editor-in-Chief, followed by Comrade Le Trong Lap, with more than 15 years as Editor-in-Chief of Ha Giang Newspaper.

Looking back at the Ha Giang newspapers in the early years of establishment, it was a very special time. In the difficult times at that time, in addition to the regular printed newspaper, Ha Giang Newspaper also created a Mong language supplement, published 3 times a month, by comrade Thao Mi Cha, an editorial staff member in charge of content. Reading the articles in the early years, despite the difficult roads, one can clearly see that the news and articles were imbued with the grassroots, the writing style was concise and easy to read. In a locality where the Mong ethnic group accounted for more than 1/3 of the population, therefore, on its check, Ha Giang Newspaper at that time also had 2 lines of Mong language subtitles, very familiar. It is known that this originated from President Ho's discussion with the provincial leaders when he visited Ha Giang in 1961, with the view that cadres must know the ethnic language and be close to the people.

Ha Giang is where the border protection war lasted the longest and ended the latest in the country. After the long resistance war against the US to save the country, the 10-year northern border protection war from 1979 to 1989 was an extremely difficult time for Ha Giang journalists. During this period, under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Phi Van Tuong, the newspaper launched the Ha Tuyen Frontline publication, a small-format newspaper, suitable for the battlefield conditions and political tasks at that time. The newspaper's war correspondents such as Phi Van Chien, Hong Quan, Duong Thi Phuc, Le Van Dang, Chu Thai Tinh, Doan Thi Ky, Do Hung..., were those who were especially attached to this newspaper.

The country entered the renovation process, but Ha Giang still faced many difficulties as it was a rocky locality, lacking domestic water, lacking arable land and emerging from the war last. Therefore, in 1995, Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Van Tong and the Research Newspaper team launched the publication Ha Giang Cuc Bac. This is a small-format newspaper with few words and many photos to serve the people in the highlands. The birth of Ha Giang Cuc Bac shows not only the creativity but also the closeness and practicality of Ha Giang journalists, implementing Uncle Ho's teachings to Ha Giang and to the revolutionary press. Ha Giang Cuc Bac newspaper, with its 30-year journey, had its last issue published in June 2025, the time when the two provinces of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang merged into the new province of Tuyen Quang.

In the flow of information technology, during the period when comrade Le Trong Lap was Editor-in-Chief, in 2007, the Ha Giang Newspaper's Electronic Information Page was born. Marking a new development milestone of Ha Giang Newspaper, in harmony with the flow of the country's press.

Entering the era of digital technology, Ha Giang Newspaper, with the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Trung Thu and the editorial staff, has quickly and promptly caught up with the development trend of modern journalism. From the Ha Giang Newspaper's electronic information page, in 2019, the Ministry of Information and Communications licensed the operation of Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper. Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper has developed rapidly, becoming a multimedia propaganda tool with many contents such as radio, television, live radio and television programs and multimedia content. On the digital platform, the Newspaper's fanpage, youtube and English page have contributed to strongly spreading the image of Ha Giang to domestic and international friends.

During its development, Ha Giang Newspaper was the home that recorded the working years and growth of many famous journalists such as journalist Hoang Thiem, who used to be a reporter for the Newspaper. Later, he joined the war correspondent, recording the last steps of the Duong Van Minh puppet government on the afternoon of April 30, 1975 at the Independence Palace. Next, the Newspaper had reporter Do Bich Thuy with years of experience in the highlands of Ha Giang before moving to the Army Literature Magazine, where she wrote many literary works that were adapted into famous films.

In its journey, Ha Giang Newspaper has had journalists who have left their mark in various fields, typically Ms. Phuong Hoa, who is known as the soldier's journalist. The newspaper is also a place that nurtures many literary and poetic souls such as journalist Do Minh Tuan, former Head of the Secretariat - Publishing Department; writer Dang Quang Vuong, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper; journalist Do Quoc Tri, former Head of the Reporters Department; writer Nguyen Tran Be, former Head of the Readers - Documents - Library Department.

On June 30, 2025, Ha Giang Newspaper will officially close the past journey to move to a new chapter with the merger of the press agencies of the two provinces of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang into Tuyen Quang Newspaper and Radio and Television. The people who start and continue in the new journey are versatile and creative journalists of the digital age to continue to accompany and serve the development of the province in the era of national growth.
