| At nearly 70 years old, Mrs. Nam still works tirelessly and contributes to the community. |
Born in 1956, Mrs. Nam held various positions in the local community. Even after retiring in 2010, she continued to actively participate in labor, production, and cultural activities in her hamlet and commune. In 2012, she was elected as the Party Secretary of La Bang hamlet. At that time, the new rural development movement was also beginning to be launched.
Driven by a desire to contribute to building a more prosperous village, she initiated the campaign to construct a new community center for the villagers. However, this idea quickly encountered difficulties: land had to be purchased, money had to be contributed, and the people's lives were still fraught with hardship.
Ms. Vu Thi Nam recalled: "Many times after meetings, when I got home, I would ponder and think about how to gain the trust and support of the villagers. At that time, I had to go to each house, talk to each person, and encourage them that the neighborhood needed a place for meetings and activities. I also mobilized my own family and the party members in the branch to contribute first. Seeing the cadres and party members setting an example, the villagers gradually followed suit."
Not stopping there, Mrs. Nam directly contacted the Labor Union of Dai Tu District (formerly) to request support of 100 million VND, and then mobilized additional funds from philanthropists and the people. As a result, the cultural center, covering more than 200m², with a garden, fence, sports field, and outdoor stage, with a total value of over 200 million VND, was completed, becoming a highlight in the new rural development of Dai Tu District at that time.
In 2023, Ms. Nam was elected Chairperson of the Elderly Association of La Bang Commune, a position she always considered a responsibility and a source of pride, enabling her to contribute even more to the community.
Thanks to Mrs. Nam's efforts and enthusiasm, the "Elderly - Shining Examples" movement in La Bang commune has achieved positive results and is increasingly making its mark. During the 2023-2024 period, the Association participated in mobilizing 270 households to donate land and contributed thousands of man-days and money to expand the concrete road to 6 meters. Among them, Mrs. Nam's family donated over 200 square meters of land and over 100 meters of fence, worth tens of millions of dong.
As the Chairwoman of the Elderly Association in the commune, Mrs. Nam always pays attention to the spiritual well-being and health of its members. Thanks to her connections, hundreds of elderly people in the commune have received regular health check-ups, and some have even received support for eye surgery and cataract replacement to improve their vision in old age.
Alongside this, clubs for arts, health, and sports were established, creating beneficial recreational spaces to help the elderly live happily, healthily, and productively.

During the 2021-2025 term, the Elderly Association of the commune gained 225 new members, maintaining a fund for elderly care worth hundreds of millions of VND, ensuring resources to support members in times of difficulty. Ms. Nam also closely coordinated with various departments, agencies, and organizations to ensure that the work of caring for the elderly was carried out effectively.
Comrade Dang Thanh Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of La Bang commune, commented: "Ms. Nam is a typical example in the 'Elderly - Shining Example' movement in the locality. Not only is she responsible and enthusiastic, but she also has great prestige, knows how to listen and persuade, thanks to which many seemingly difficult tasks are accomplished more easily."
