(QBĐT) - The Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) was established and officially put into operation on January 1, 2020 according to the decision of the Provincial People's Committee on the basis of merging 6 specialized units at the provincial level. With the spirit of solidarity and continuous efforts, the Provincial CDC has created trust from the Party Committee, government and people in the fight against and control of diseases.
Unforgettable impression
Director of the provincial CDC Do Quoc Tiep shared that, as soon as it started operating, the unit had to face great challenges when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in China and spread rapidly around the world. As the province's frontline preventive medical unit, the unit proactively advised the Department of Health and the provincial People's Committee to issue many timely decisions and solutions to implement the work of preventing and fighting the Covid-19 epidemic.
Notably, at that time, the provincial CDC was one of the first 22 facilities nationwide recognized by the Ministry of Health as qualified to conduct confirmatory testing for Covid-19. With a testing team of only 6 people, the unit raced against time, working through the night, processing thousands of test samples every day, making an important contribution to detecting and separating F0 from the community.
Not only focusing on disease prevention and control in the province, the provincial CDC also sent staff to support Khammouane province (Laos) in preventing and controlling Covid-19; promptly provided human resources to disease control checkpoints, concentrated quarantine areas and field hospitals of the province... contributing effectively to disease control work in the region.
Along with that, determining that vaccination is an important measure to control the Covid-19 epidemic, as soon as the Ministry of Health allocated vaccines, the provincial CDC quickly deployed vaccination work throughout the province, ensuring safety for people, especially the elderly and those with underlying diseases.
After the vaccination campaigns were vigorously implemented, the Covid-19 vaccination coverage rate with 2 basic doses in the whole province reached over 99%, creating community immunity and good control of the epidemic, contributing to bringing Quang Binh back to a new normal state soon.
Efforts for community health
“When it came into operation, improving the quality of human resources was considered a key task for sustainable development. Along with reviewing, arranging and assigning staff in accordance with their professional capacity, the unit sent dozens of doctors, nurses and technicians to participate in short-term and long-term intensive training courses to meet the requirements of the tasks in the new situation. If when it was first established (in 2020), the unit only had 20 staff with post-graduate degrees, now that number has increased to 50 and many other staff and civil servants are continuing to study postgraduate programs,” said Dr. Do Quoc Tiep.
In addition, the unit focuses on investing in modern equipment, expanding specialized activities to control infectious diseases, emerging diseases, non-communicable diseases, providing public health care and preventing and combating HIV/AIDS.
The center has also quickly implemented many socialized solutions, completed the dossier to put the multidisciplinary clinic into operation and increased cooperation with medical units to develop high-tech services.
At the same time, promote the application of information technology in the management of health programs, vaccination, epidemics and electronic health records, contributing to the modernization of health management in the province. In particular, every year, the provincial CDC has 10-15 initiatives and scientific research topics that are recognized and applied in practice, contributing significantly to the management of public health.
Over the past 5 years, the provincial CDC has achieved many outstanding results, such as: Inspection, monitoring, prevention and control of epidemics in the province are carried out regularly, ensuring early detection and timely handling of infectious diseases; the expanded vaccination rate is always over 95%, helping to control vaccine-preventable diseases well; non-communicable disease control activities are strengthened, with the rate of diabetic patients being managed and treated reaching over 58%; high-risk hypertensive patients being treated according to the regimen reaching over 57%; 100% of mental patients being managed and treated according to the regimen of the Ministry of Health; management and care support for 362 people infected with HIV, of which 285 patients are receiving ARV treatment...
In particular, Quang Binh has been recognized for eliminating malaria and leprosy, marking an important step forward in the province's preventive medicine work.
After 5 years of establishment and development, the provincial CDC has affirmed its important role in protecting and taking care of people's health, especially in disease prevention and control. The unit's efforts and contributions not only help improve the province's health care quality but also contribute significantly to the overall achievements of the Vietnamese health sector.
