" The Vietnamese women's team will try to achieve the best possible result ," coach Mai Duc Chung said after the Vietnamese women's team's training session this afternoon (October 31).

Tomorrow (November 1), the Vietnamese team will face Japan in the final match of the 2024 Olympic qualifying round 2. This is also the last match of coach Mai Duc Chung as "captain" of the Vietnamese women's team.

“Everyone knows how strong Japan is. They just had an impressive World Cup and ASIAD. Therefore, this will be a difficult match for the Vietnamese women's team. However, with the attention of the VFF and with a high determination, we will do our best. Football still has unexpected variables," said coach Mai Duc Chung.

The Vietnamese women's team doesn't have much chance to continue when they only have 3 points after the first 2 matches. However, Huynh Nhu and her teammates still have the motivation to contribute in the final match, even when facing a very strong opponent. The Vietnamese women's team is determined to have a meaningful match to say goodbye to coach Mai Duc Chung.

Coach Mai Duc Chung confirmed that he will "retire" after the end of his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). The contract will expire in December 2023. Therefore, the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers will be the last tournament that Chung will work in as head coach of the Vietnamese women's team. The match against Japan will be the last match of this journey.

The force that the Japanese women's team brought to Uzbekistan is considered stronger than at the 19th ASIAD. Stars who "made waves" at the 2023 Women's World Cup such as Hinata Miyazawa, Kumaga, Endo, Minami, Shimizu, Tanaka Mina, Miyano,... were all summoned.

After 2 wins, Japan is temporarily leading with 6 points (+9 goal difference). The 2nd and 3rd positions are respectively the Vietnamese and Uzbekistan women's teams. Both teams have 3 points (1 win, 1 loss), but coach Mai Duc Chung and his team are ranked higher due to a better goal difference (+1 compared to -1). The Indian women's team is at the bottom of the table with no points after 2 losses.
