According to The Sun, Dutch player Quincy Promes was sentenced in absentia to 18 months in prison for assault and fined £6,000 in compensation.

In 2020, Promes and his cousin got into an argument over a stolen necklace. Promes stabbed his cousin in the leg and was charged with attempted murder before the charge was overturned and changed to assault.

Promes now has the right to appeal to the Dutch court. It is understood that Promes could have received a lenient sentence if he had been present at the recent trial.

Promes will also face a further trial later this year on drug possession charges. Prosecutors also allege the 31-year-old played a role in organising a smuggling ring that estimated nearly 1,370kg of drugs were smuggled in with a value of £65m.

The former Sevilla player is currently in Moscow and is in the process of applying for Russian citizenship. If successful, the Dutchman will avoid a prison sentence in the Netherlands as the two countries do not have an extradition agreement.

Promes currently plays for Spartak Moscow and last played for the Netherlands in 2021.

Arsenal legend charged with property damage

According to Sueddeutsche Zeitung , the Munich prosecutor's office has charged Jens Lehmann with property damage.

Lehmann was unhappy with his neighbour's garage extension as it blocked the former Arsenal player's view of Lake Starnberg and a dispute broke out. The German legend used a chainsaw to cut off his neighbour's awning.

The Arsenal legend said on his personal page: "The allegations against me are untrue. The allegation regarding a parking ticket is a huge damage to my reputation and privacy."
