1. The 0-4 defeat to Malaysia was not simply a forgettable stumble for coach Kim Sang Sik and his team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, but also exposed a worrying reality: the Vietnamese team is aging in its operations and outdated in its personnel.
After more than a year of coach Kim Sang Sik taking over, fans still see a familiar lineup with the old framework from the time of coach Park Hang Seo for 5-7 years such as Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, Tien Linh, Bui Tien Dung... more, instead of the appearance of new factors.
Of course, the above names still deserve to play an important role in the Vietnamese team because of their class and experience... But, because of safety, the red team lacks breakthroughs and mental resilience in difficult times.

2. A reality arises: is the Vietnamese team lacking good players to the point of having to maintain such a fixed squad for a long time, as well as for half of the contract that coach Kim Sang Sik signed with VFF?
The answer is no when the 2024/25 V-League season still has many young or ambitious faces as well as very good expertise, but in the end, it is still out of Mr. Kim Sang Sik's plan.
It can be understood that the decision to choose or eliminate someone is always the prerogative of the team leader, to ensure the completion of the agreed goal with VFF, but perfectionism that lasts too long can easily lead to failure.
The lesson from the most successful coach in the history of Vietnamese football, Mr. Park Hang Seo, is the clearest proof of the lack of adaptation and change to the situation and opponents... after a long time standing at the top of victory.
3. The defeat against Malaysia makes it difficult for Vietnam to compete for a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup, but that does not mean the opportunity is over, if coach Kim Sang Sik changes.

Specifically, from now until the second leg against Malaysia is still quite long (March 2026), enough time for coach Kim Sang Sik to do something to turn the tide, or at least create a premise for success for the road ahead.
To do so, in addition to relying on naturalized players and veterans, this is the most appropriate time for the Korean strategist to make revolutionary decisions about personnel.
Young people and new faces need to be given more opportunities and trials in the coming time or in the Asian Cup qualifiers (against Nepal and Laos) to create greater competition and motivation in the Vietnamese team instead of being safe and lacking in ambition as seen.
