World market developments

The US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) decreased by 0.47% to 98.64.

The dollar fell after data showed inflation in the world's largest economy rose more slowly than expected last month, suggesting the US Federal Reserve could cut interest rates sooner than expected.

However, the greenback temporarily pared losses after President Donald Trump announced that a trade deal between the US and China had been completed, under which Beijing would supply magnets and rare earth minerals, while the US would allow Chinese students to study at its colleges and universities.

The dollar fell 0.2 percent to 144.58 yen. The euro rose 0.5 percent to 1.1484, paring earlier gains as sentiment on the greenback improved on news from China.

On economic data, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.1% last month after rising 0.2% in April, according to the US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a 0.2% increase in the CPI. However, annual inflation rose to 2.4% from 2.3% in April.

The pound rose against the already weak dollar, up 0.3% to $1.3542.
