USD exchange rate today: Early morning of August 3, the State Bank announced the central exchange rate of Vietnamese Dong to USD is currently at 25,249 VND.

The USD Index (DXY), which measures the greenback's performance against six major currencies, is currently at 98.69.

USD exchange rate in the world last week

The US dollar rose sharply at the start of the week on easing trade concerns and the US Federal Reserve’s stance on interest rates, helping the DXY index to its first monthly gain of the year. However, the US dollar fell sharply on August 2 after a disappointing July jobs report, with fewer new jobs than expected and an increase in the unemployment rate.

The US dollar rose against the euro and yen on July 29 as the market was boosted by a trade deal between the US and the European Union (EU), bringing some certainty to the market and avoiding the risk of a global trade war.

On July 30, the USD hit a one-month high against the EUR, following a series of trade agreements between the US and major partners, while investors were waiting for interest rate decisions from the Fed and the Bank of Japan (BoJ).

By July 31, the USD continued to strengthen against major currencies, after the Fed kept interest rates unchanged as expected by the market, despite pressure from President Donald Trump.

The dollar was on track for its first monthly gain in 2025 against major currencies on Aug. 1, supported by easing trade tensions and a resilient U.S. economy . The greenback rose against the yen on Thursday, hitting its highest level since May 28. The dollar has gained about 5% since the start of July, its biggest monthly gain since December 2024. The dollar was up 0.83% at 150.765 yen at the close.

The dollar unexpectedly fell sharply on August 2 and was headed for its biggest daily decline against the yen since January 2023, after data showed that US employers created fewer jobs than expected in July, while the previous month's employment figures were revised down sharply. Specifically, US employers added only 73,000 jobs in July, much lower than the forecast of 110,000 by economists surveyed by Reuters, while the unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.2% as expected, from 4.1% in June. The number of new jobs created in June was also revised down to just 14,000, compared to the previously announced level of 147,000.

The dollar strengthened in late July on the back of the trade deal and the Fed’s dovish stance, but some of that momentum was erased in early August under pressure from weak jobs data and expectations of rate cuts. This fueled expectations of an early Fed rate cut, causing the greenback to lose momentum by the end of the week.
