According to data from the Korean Statistics Agency, the number of multicultural marriages in the country increased by 18.3%, reaching 20,000 in 2023. The number of Vietnamese men marrying Korean women increased sharply, 35.2%, of which a large number are Vietnamese women who naturalized as Koreans after divorcing their Korean husbands.

Figures show that the number of naturalized Korean wives marrying Vietnamese men for the second time increased from 420 in 2021 to 556 in 2022 and 752 in 2023.
Previously, the number of international marriages in the country dropped sharply during the pandemic. From 23,600 in 2019, the number of international marriages in Korea dropped to 15,300 in 2020 and about 13,000 in 2021. But the number has increased again to about 17,000 in 2022 and 20,000 in 2023.
Of the total marriages in South Korea in 2023, multicultural marriages accounted for 10.2%, up from 8.7% the previous year.
Vietnamese women will account for the largest proportion of foreign wives, reaching 33.5% in 2023, followed by China at 18.1% and Thailand at 13.7%.
Among foreign husbands, American men accounted for the largest proportion at 27.7%, followed by Chinese at 18.4% and Vietnamese at 15.8%.
Data shows that the number of divorces among multicultural couples in South Korea increased by 5.1% to 6,000 in 2023.
