U.19 Vietnam wins unexpectedly at women's tournament: Meet Thailand in Southeast Asia final?

On the afternoon of June 13 at Thong Nhat Stadium, the U.19 Vietnam women's team faced the U.19 Laos women's team in the final match of Group A of the 2025 Southeast Asian U.19 Women's Championship. Before this match, the U.19 Vietnam women's team was ranked first in Group A with a record of 2 wins, 6 points and a goal difference of +8. Therefore, coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team only need 1 more point to secure a ticket to the semi-finals as the first place in Group A.

Vietnam won the biggest victory since the beginning of the tournament.

The U.19 Vietnam women's team was rated higher and showed complete superiority over the Lao women's players. In more than 45 minutes of the first half, the home team led by 6 goals.

Le Thi Trang was the one who opened the scoring for the U.19 Vietnam women's team very early, when the ball had only been on the field for 5 minutes. After 9 minutes, Le Thi Trang had a double goal, with a technical dribble to eliminate the opposing defenders and finish into the far corner.

Nguyen Thu Trang headed the ball to increase the score to 3-0 in the 13th minute. In the 17th minute, Nguyen Vinh Thuc Nghi dribbled the ball to eliminate the entire defense and the Lao goalkeeper, widening the gap to 4-0. Before the end of the first half, Luu Hoang Van still managed to shine and score 2 more goals (minutes 28 and 35), thereby helping the U.19 Vietnam women's team lead to 6-0.

In the 48th minute, Truong Thi Hoai Trinh raised the score to 7-0. In the 77th minute, Luu Hoang Van completed a hat-trick, sealing the 8-0 victory for the U.19 Vietnam women's team against Laos. This was also the biggest win since the beginning of the tournament.

With a record of 3 wins, the U.19 Vietnam women's team entered the semi-finals as the first place in Group A. In the same match at Group A, Myanmar defeated Timor Leste 7-0. Myanmar entered the semi-finals as the second place in Group A.

In the final match of Group B, the U.19 Thai women's team won 3-0 against Cambodia. The team from the land of the golden pagoda also entered the semi-finals as the top team of Group B, with a perfect record of 3 wins. Meanwhile, Indonesia defeated Malaysia 4-0. The U.19 Indonesian women's team entered the semi-finals as the second team of Group B.

Thus, in the semi-finals, the U.19 Vietnamese women's team will face Indonesia, while Thailand will face Myanmar.

In theory, Vietnam and Thailand are the two teams that are rated higher in the semi-finals. Therefore, the scenario where these two teams with a lot of fate will compete with each other in the final match of the U.19 Southeast Asian Women's Championship is awaited by fans.
