Harvey Elliott and the expensive stars of the England U21 team played badly.

Early on the morning of June 19, two goals in the first half by Ansgar Knauff and Nelson Weiper helped U21 Germany take an early lead against the expensive young stars of English football. In this match, U21 England fielded a very strong squad with Ethan Nwaneri, Harvey Elliott and Omari Hutchinson - stars playing in the English Premier League.

On the other hand, U21 Germany, after officially qualifying for the quarter-finals with an early match, took to the field with 11 changes compared to the previous match. However, the young team from the foggy land disappointed. Although Alex Scott scored to reduce the score to 1-2 for England in the 76th minute, the "Three Lions" could not collect a point against their fierce rivals.

This is the third consecutive defeat for England U21 when facing Germany U21 in official tournaments. This defeat means England U21 only won second place in Group B (behind Germany). After three group stage matches, England U21 won one, drew one, and lost one. England U21 will meet Spain, the number one candidate for the championship, in the quarter-finals.

England U21 coach Lee Carsley did not hide his disappointment after the defeat to Germany. He admitted that his team had been “shocked” by the pressure from Germany U21, and warned that his players needed to improve if they were to overcome Spain in the quarter-finals.

Coach Carsley assessed: “The way England U21s started the game and conceded was very disappointing. I asked the players to reflect, which led to three changes at half-time. The second half showed a positive reaction though, with plenty of chances created, but we need to be more clinical. Against Spain, a team of high quality, we cannot afford to miss our chances. If they go two goals up, the game is over.”

Xabi Alonso's Real was held to a draw by Saudi Arabia's representative. In the early morning of June 19, Real had a 1-1 draw with Al Hilal in Group H, FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
