U23 Vietnam reluctantly had to change personnel before the opening match

It is known that Thanh Nhan was injured during the training session on the evening of July 16 of the Vietnam U23 team, after an unbalanced landing situation and had to leave the training session. On the morning of July 17, this player was taken to the hospital by the medical team for examination using the MRI method. The results showed that Thanh Nhan had damaged the ligaments of his left ankle and could not recover in time to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

This is not the first time the young striker has missed important matches and tournaments due to injury. Previously, Thanh Nhan had to miss the 2023 Asian Cup Finals, could not compete in the Bronze Medal match at the 32nd SEA Games and most recently could not participate in the 2024 U23 Asian Finals.

In order to replenish his squad in time, Coach Kim Sang Sik decided to recall versatile midfielder Le Van Thuan to replace Thanh Nhan. The Korean coach also expressed his regret and encouraged Thanh Nhan to return home to have the best conditions for treatment and recovery.

Le Van Thuan, born in 2006, is one of the outstanding young players who grew up from the Dong A Thanh Hoa training center. In the 2024/25 season, Van Thuan was promoted to the first team of the Thanh team to compete in the V.league and left many impressions with 16 appearances, scoring 4 goals and contributing 2 assists, thereby receiving the title "Best young player of V.league 2024/25".

With his impressive performance, Le Van Thuan was called up to the Vietnam U23 team in preparation for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers and towards the 33rd SEA Games. However, in the final list of 23 players, Van Thuan did not appear.

Thanh Nhan's unfortunate injury is a very regrettable thing for this player personally, but it opens up an opportunity for the 18-year-old midfielder of Dong A Thanh Hoa to rejoin the national team, ready to take on the task of replacing his senior to contribute to the U23 Vietnam shirt at this year's regional tournament. According to the plan, Van Thuan will be in Jakarta tomorrow (July 18).

Vietnam National Team will have their opening match at the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship against Laos U23 Team on July 19.
