On the evening of July 29, U23 Vietnam won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship for the third time after winning 1-0 against host U23 Indonesia at Bung Karno Stadium.

Previously, U23 Vietnam won the 2022 tournament in Cambodia under coach Dinh The Nam in 2022, and in 2023 in Thailand under coach Hoang Anh Tuan.

Sharing after the historic achievement of U23 Vietnam, coach Hoang Anh Tuan assessed that U23 Vietnam followed the tactics very well and played very disciplined.

While U23 Indonesia controlled the ball better, their attacks were monotonous and lacked any innovation. They mostly used medium and long passes and their throw-ins were no longer special as they had become too familiar with it.

"At the beginning of the match, U23 Vietnam had some situations of losing concentration, but very quickly after that, they consolidated their formation. In this match, we played a 5-4-1 formation that focused on defense, deploying the ball quickly to attack," Mr. Tuan shared with Tri Thuc - Znews .

When asked about the most outstanding individual in the U23 Vietnam team, coach Hoang Anh Tuan frankly stated that there is no outstanding player who surpasses the team.

"If we only consider the Indonesia match, goalkeeper Trung Kien deserves praise for completing his task excellently. He always shows himself to be a good support for the whole team at key moments," said the former coach of Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Club.

In this year's tournament, the U23 Vietnam squad has many young names who are already familiar in the national teams. And if we count the international arena, there are only a few relatively new names such as Vo Anh Quan and Nguyen Nhat Minh.

"U23 Vietnam did not play really well, or we can say that it did not satisfy expectations. However, the most important thing is the stability of the whole team that brought home the championship for the third time, which is completely deserved," said coach Hoang Anh Tuan.

The only goal helped U23 Vietnam win the Southeast Asian Championship. On the evening of July 29, the U23 Vietnam team defeated Indonesia 1-0 in the final of the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship held at Bung Karno Stadium.
