Discussing this issue, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Chief of Office of District 5 People's Committee, said that the word "street" is a common word used throughout the country. Even in Ho Chi Minh City, there are many places named after the word "street" such as Nguyen Hue Walking Street and Bui Vien Walking Street.

“Soai Kinh Lam Market is just a market specializing in selling fabrics but has a rather small area. Meanwhile, the area around many streets around the market also has stalls selling fabrics like in Soai Kinh Lam Market. Therefore, when orienting the development of specific tourism products in the area, we call the whole area a street, not changing it to a city market. The street covers both the market and the surrounding streets and that area has a famous market called Soai Kinh Lam, so we decided to keep this name for the fabric street in District 5," said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh.

Soai Kinh Lam is the largest wholesale fabric area in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Mr. Thanh, this is not the first time District 5 has named streets for specific business areas in the district. Previously, District 5 had Oriental Medicine Street, Lantern Street, Stationery Street, Jewelry Street, Fashion Street... These are distinctive brands, helping to promote more strongly. "The construction of these specialized streets also aims to encourage local economic and tourism development," Mr. Thanh added.

Soai Kinh Lam fabric market was formed in the late 80s of the last century and is the largest fabric wholesale market in Ho Chi Minh City. The name Soai Kinh Lam is because when the market was formed, right next to the market there was a restaurant with the same name, so people used to call it. However, after becoming a wholesale market, due to the need for development, many households in the surrounding area also opened shops specializing in selling fabric, forming a large-scale fabric selling area.
