The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority has just issued another directive to relevant units to continue proactively preventing, combating, and responding to Typhoon No. 1 (international name Talim) in order to ensure the safety of flight operations, people, and property at airports, and to minimize negative impacts on flight operations.

Accordingly, the leaders of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority requested the Aviation Meteorological Center to continuously monitor the storm's developments and update the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue and other aviation agencies and units.

In response to Typhoon No. 1, three airports were closed.

Airlines are required to proactively adjust flight schedules where possible, moving flights forward or backward after the period of advised bad weather; and to ensure pilots adhere to safety protocols before and after the storm.

For flights to and from Noi Bai, Van Don, and Cat Bi International Airports, fuel consumption needs to be calculated, and an alternate airport should be selected from Vinh, Da Nang , and other locations southward, depending on the type of aircraft.

The Department of Air Transport, airlines, and related units need to arrange 24/7 on-call duty to immediately address requests from airlines to adjust flight schedules due to the impact of the storm.

"Van Don and Cat Bi international airports need to move aircraft that are scheduled to land at Van Don and Cat Bi airports (except in cases of force majeure) to other airports."

"Cat Bi Airport, in coordination with Green Planet Aviation Joint Stock Company, is organizing the securing of aircraft parked at the airport to ensure safety in storm prevention efforts," the leader of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority requested.

The official dispatch stated that the Northern Aviation Authority is implementing procedures to suspend the reception of aircraft arriving at/departing from Noi Bai Airport (from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on July 18), Van Don Airport (from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on July 18), and Cat Bi Airport (from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on July 18). According to the Aviation Meteorological Center's assessment, these are periods with hazardous weather conditions at the airports.

The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority also requested the Northern Airports Authority to regularly update information on Typhoon No. 1 in order to proactively adjust the opening/closing times of airports in the affected area according to regulations.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and the Weather Warning Center, at 13:00 on July 17th, the storm's center was located approximately 480km east-southeast of Mong Cai ( Quang Ninh ), with a strength of level 12 (118-133 km/h), gusts of level 15, and moving west-northwest (15-20 km/h).

The storm's center is forecast to enter the Hanoi FIR (Flight Information Region) between 12:00 and 14:00 on July 18th, with winds of force 8-10, gusting to force 10-12. The storm's center is forecast to make landfall between 13:00 and 14:00 on July 18th, with winds of force 8, gusting to force 10. It is predicted that after 19:00 on July 18th, Typhoon No. 1 will weaken into a tropical depression and further weaken into a low-pressure area.
