About Until Dawn: The Secret of Horror

Until Dawn (2025) is an American survival horror film directed by David F. Sandberg, based on a screenplay and story by Gary Dauberman and Blair Butler. It is an adaptation of the 2015 PlayStation Studios video game of the same name, expanding the universe with a standalone original story. The film stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A'zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, and Peter Stormare (reprising his role from the game).

Sony announced the project in January 2024, with PlayStation Productions producing. Principal photography took place from August to October 2024 in Budapest.

The film was released in the United States on April 25, 2025, distributed by Sony Pictures, grossing $18 million worldwide (budget $15 million) and receiving mixed reviews from critics.

Until Dawn Movie Content Horrifying Secret

Clover and her friends Max (her ex-boyfriend), Nina, Megan and Abe (Nina's boyfriend) set out to find Melanie, Clover's missing sister. They stop at the gas station where Melanie sent her last video and meet the station manager, Dr. Hill. He tells them about the dangerous road leading to the mining town of Glore Valley, where disappearances often occur. The group decides to go there but is blocked by heavy rain, forcing them to take shelter at a strange visitor center where the rain only appears around this area.

Inside the center, Abe discovers a wall covered with photos of missing people, including Melanie. As night falls, Nina signs the guestbook, and the group discovers a hidden house underneath. There, they are attacked by a masked man wielding an axe, killing everyone.

Strangely, the group awakens on the first night with a new signature in the book and a picture of Melanie on the wall. They find themselves trapped in a time loop, symbolized by the hourglass in the main room. When the lights go out, an abandoned house appears across from the center. Megan is taken by supernatural forces, while Clover is lured into the house and murdered by an old man – the haunting spirit of Glore Valley. After being “possessed”, Clover kills Max before being hit by a car and killed.

The cycle continues: the group discovers that they have only 13 deaths before disappearing forever like the previous victims. All attempts to escape (such as drinking poisoned water that causes their bodies to explode) fail. In the final death, Clover sees Dr. Hill admitting his involvement and urging her to continue. Determined to break the curse, Clover leads the group to investigate the truth about Hill and Melanie, but conflict erupts when Nina kills Abe for betraying her.

The pieces of the puzzle come together: Glore Valley was once deep underground after a mining disaster, Hill was a doctor who treated survivors. A videotape shows that those who die on the 13th night turn into Wendigos. While the group is repeatedly murdered by monsters and masked men, Clover discovers that Melanie has turned into a Wendigo. Heartbroken, she asks Max to kill her to restart the cycle.

By the 13th night, the group's bodies begin to transform into Wendigos. Megan goes missing, and they track her into the tunnels where Hill is experimenting. Clover confronts the truth: the monsters are the manifestations of her obsession and guilt over Melanie's death (which resulted from an argument that caused her sister to leave). After poisoning Hill with poisoned water, Clover rescues Megan, and the group kills the masked man and flees the tunnels before dawn—breaking the curse.

Behind the scenes: The surveillance system in Hill's office cuts to a snowy cabin, where another car is approaching – suggesting the cycle of horror continues with a new victim.

The film will officially premiere on May 9, 2025 with a duration of 103 minutes. This is a film version adapted from the famous horror game Until Dawn, 10 years after the original was released.
