The National Assembly Standing Committee gives opinions on the draft Law on Trade Unions (amended)

According to the program, the legal thematic session will take place over 2 days, from April 1 to 2, 2024 at the National Assembly House.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue attended, delivered the opening speech and, together with the National Assembly Vice Chairmen, chaired the discussion.

Within 2 working days, the National Assembly Standing Committee will give opinions on the draft Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on job positions for full-time National Assembly deputies working at the central level, and officials and civil servants under the management authority of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

At the same time, give opinions on 5 draft laws, including: Law on Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking (amended); Law on Notarization (amended); Law on Management and Use of Weapons, Explosives and Support Tools (amended); Law on People's Air Defense; Law on Trade Unions (amended).

These are all draft laws that will be submitted to the National Assembly for initial comments at the 7th Session next May. Regarding the draft Law on Trade Unions (amended), the Institute for Legislative Studies under the National Assembly Standing Committee held a workshop to collect comments on March 28.

At the workshop, delegates agreed that the amendment of the Trade Union Law at the present time is really necessary and appropriate. In particular, the 2019 Labor Code has taken effect since January 1, 2021 with many amendments and supplements on labor relations and the rights of employees to participate in representative organizations.

In addition, in the context of deep international economic integration, Vietnam has participated in new-generation free trade agreements with commitments to comply with basic principles and rights at work according to conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO), including ILO Convention No. 98 on the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining.

Delegates focused on giving comments on: interpretation of terms; rights to establish, join and operate trade unions; supervision of activities of agencies, organizations and enterprises; State responsibility for trade unions; ensuring organization of cadres; trade union finance; handling violations of trade union laws...
