According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Foreign Minister will have a packed schedule including meetings with leaders of various countries and talks with his counterparts from those countries.
The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Latin America is a region with friendly relations with Russia, and Russia plans to maintain dynamic dialogue with the region, developing constructive cooperation without any external imposition. The main goal of Foreign Minister Lavrov's five-day visit is to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with Latin American countries in the political , trade and economic, educational, humanitarian, cultural, and other fields.
In an article titled "Russia and Latin America: Cooperation and Partnership Towards the Future," recently published on the Russian Foreign Ministry 's portal, Foreign Minister Lavrov emphasized that the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape has opened up new opportunities for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Latin American countries. For Russia, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States is a truly important foreign policy area. Russia does not want this region to become an arena for confrontation between great powers, and stressed the importance of a future-oriented partnership between Russia and the region. To achieve this future-oriented partnership, Lavrov expressed Russia's commitment to supporting Latin American countries in addressing regional challenges such as inequality, poverty, and environmental degradation.
Analysts believe that while Latin American countries view the European Union (EU) and the United States as partners, they must also consider balancing their relationships with China and Russia. According to Liberation, China is a key investor in Latin America, while Russia is a crucial source of chemical fertilizers and food products that the region's food industries cannot ignore.
