Van Toan's surgery was successful, he missed the first leg of V-League and the Vietnam national team

After a successful surgery, striker Van Toan will need at least 5-6 months of rest, meaning he will miss the first leg of the 2025/26 V-League, as well as the Vietnam national team's training sessions this year.

On August 13, striker Nguyen Van Toan underwent surgery for a meniscus injury. The surgery was successful after more than an hour.

After surgery, Van Toan stayed in the hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for 1-2 days for examination, then he was discharged and began the recovery training process.

Coach Vu Hong Viet called to encourage Van Toan. He said that the team is ready to create the best conditions for striker number 9 to be able to return to training with the team soon.

Van Toan will return in early 2026.

According to the doctors of Nam Dinh Green Steel Club , it is expected that it will take Van Toan about 5-6 months to return to competition.

Thus, the striker from Hai Phong (formerly Hai Duong ) missed the first leg of V-League 2025/26, and will be absent from the Vietnam national team until the end of 2025.

Van Toan's injury for about half a year forced coach Vu Hong Viet to have a replacement plan to prepare the team for the 2025/26 season with 5 tournaments to participate in.
