Previously, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club announced its name change, in association with its banking partner. The team of Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc also sent a document to VFF requesting a name change. However, yesterday, VFF gave a number of reasons why they have not approved HAGL's name change.
Firstly, according to VFF, the new name of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club "is not a proper name or a business name associated with the locality".

Second, "the name of the club includes a third party, whether it is a commercial partner, or a new sponsor of the club".
Third, also according to VFF: "The request to change the name from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club was sent to VFF while the tournament was taking place. Currently, the V-League has gone through 3 rounds."
Although not agreeing with the name change request of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club, the VFF, through an official dispatch issued on November 10, also pointed out a plan for the mountain town football team to complete this name change, which is through the VFF Executive Committee.
The Vietnam Football Federation's official dispatch stated: "In case Hoang Anh Gia Lai wishes to change its name, VFF requests Hoang Anh Gia Lai to cooperate in the implementation. First, the club shall send a document to the VFF Executive Committee regarding this matter, stating the reasons and requesting the Executive Committee to consider approving an exception."
"Second, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club completes the procedures to change the business name to match the new name of the club, so that VFF has a basis to change the name," the VFF's official dispatch added.
According to VFF, in case Hoang Anh Gia Lai is renamed, the new name will only be applied in domestic tournaments. If the mountain town team participates in the Asian Cup, the name of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club must comply with the regulations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
