Why do Czech and Polish farmers block border gates and boycott cheap Ukrainian grain?

Accordingly, from 10:00 (local time) on April 12, Polish farmers will block the Poland-Ukraine border crossing in Dorohusk. Meanwhile, Czech, Slovak, Romanian and Bulgarian farmers will also simultaneously block the border crossing with Ukraine or from Ukraine to prevent the transport of imported Ukrainian grain to European Union (EU) countries.

Due to the conflict in Ukraine, from June 1, 2022, Ukrainian grain will be allowed to be imported into EU member states through the "Solidarity Corridor" without any tariff restrictions.

Ukrainian grain is supposed to be shipped through Polish territory to other EU countries, but in reality, most of it is imported into Poland. This causes many problems for Polish producers.

Although Polish farmers still supported aid to Kiev, they protested against the import of cheap Ukrainian grain, which made it difficult for them to export their own grain, and so they organized protests.

Earlier, in early February 2023, Polish farmers also blocked the entrance to the border crossing in Dorohusk. At that time, only trucks carrying food, live animals and vehicles transporting humanitarian aid were allowed to pass.
