According to data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in 2024, tourism will be one of the most stable growth sectors of Dak Nong province (now Lam Dong province) with revenue reaching VND 195 billion, an increase of 21.87% compared to 2023; reaching 101.5% of the annual plan.
Having occupied the front seat of the bus so as not to miss any mountain pass or any cluster of clouds drifting over the sky and water, the entire mountain road from Da Lat to Gia Nghia, the memories of Dak Nong back then, to the writer, are a highland region still filled with stories waiting to be told, to be discovered , to be experienced.
Ta Dung National Park, Dray Sap waterfall, Ea Sno lake…, destinations that have not been encroached or interfered with too much until now, still primitive, rustic and open like the people on that land - with all the diverse and unique cultural colors of the ethnic community - are extremely worthy journeys to return to.
Come back, and take a deep breath of the pure highland air, sip a cup of pure coffee while waiting for the dawn, or spend the chilly nights leaning over a cup of intimate wine. Come back, like a return to the origin of consciousness, to harmonize with heaven and earth, not to conquer nature.
The question is, of the 6,200 international visitors to Dak Nong's destinations in 2024 (an increase of 14.8% compared to 2023), how many will return? Even though many of them may have been stunned by the hundreds of green islands from Ta Dung peak, or leisurely leaned on the bow of the boat, enjoying the peaceful drifting scene, in the vastness of the Ea S'no afternoon mist?
The story will not only be about the unrivaled wild landscape of this land. For tourism in the old Dak Nong area to spread its wings after being "gathered together" with the reputation of Da Lat as well as the peaceful coastal areas of Binh Thuan , above all, perhaps the "common home" Lam Dong needs a new master plan, with mutual and open connections. Already "famous" to domestic and international tourists, Da Lat can completely take on the role of a center, to direct and transfer tourists, as the capital Hanoi does in the Northern Delta region.
But then, in Ta Dung, Ea S'no or D'ray Sap, the factor that retains and attracts tourists will have to be the continuous development from thinking to action, to create a network of increasingly rich and diverse tourism products and services.
Far-flung visitors do not only need beautiful scenery. They also need to have their living needs met at the standards of quality tourist areas. And then, they need truly unique or poetic stories to bring back to tell their friends, relatives, or post on social networks... The added value of tourism is there. And the higher the added value, the more conditions there are for this highland region not to have to trade too much of its wild, majestic beauty and unique indigenous culture.
In short, it would be a huge waste if Dak Nong tourism (old) chose the path of becoming a popular tourist area, only chasing the increasing number of visitors, while forgetting the quality of tourism products. Everything needs to be neat, tidy, and clear…, like the new roads in Gia Nghia today.
