Vietnam-Cambodia promote cooperation in religious development

Minister Dao Ngoc Dung emphasized that the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions wishes to continue to strengthen the relationship with the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religions, especially in religious matters.

Information from the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions said that within the framework of the United Nations Vesak 2025, on May 8, at the Office of the Vietnam Buddhist Academy ( Ho Chi Minh City), Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Dao Ngoc Dung had a cordial reception with Mr. Chhat Chhet, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Cults and Religions of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

At the reception, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung respectfully thanked Mr. Chhat Sochhet for taking the time to come to Vietnam to attend the 2025 Vesak Festival and thanked Cambodia for sending military forces to participate in the parade celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification of Vietnam.

Mr. Dung expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Cambodian Secretary of State to discuss development cooperation related to religious issues between the two countries.

According to the head of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions , Vietnam and Cambodia are two close neighboring countries. In recent years, the two Parties, States and Peoples have had deep, comprehensive and strategic ties and cooperation.

Therefore, on this occasion, the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions wishes to continue to strengthen the relationship with the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religions, especially in religious matters. In particular, the two sides focus on fundamental issues such as how to make our religious work increasingly freer, more respectful, and operate more effectively within the legal framework.

Minister Dao Ngoc Dung also expressed his hope that the two sides (Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions and the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religions) will coordinate more closely in international cooperation, exchange experiences in State management of religion between the two countries, and train officials.

“I propose that the specialized agencies of the two countries review and soon complete the memorandum of understanding on development cooperation between the two sides. I would also like to invite the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister to visit Vietnam soon and this memorandum of understanding may be signed by the two sides in Hanoi ,” Mr. Dung emphasized.

At the ceremony, Mr. Chhat Sochhet - Secretary of State of the Ministry of Cults and Religion of the Kingdom of Cambodia conveyed the congratulations of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun. The Vesak 2025 was successfully organized by Vietnam, contributing to building a peaceful and cooperative relationship for mutual development with countries around the world.

“Your country is very beautiful, the people are very happy and friendly. Once again, I would like to congratulate you on having a brilliant and solemn 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification,” said Mr. Chhat Sochhet.

The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Cults and Religion of the Kingdom of Cambodia also said that Cambodia and Vietnam have had exchanges and shared experiences, especially in the field of religious freedom, and Cambodia fully supports Vietnam. This will be an important foundation for the two sides to move towards closer bilateral cooperation./.
