According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in the first two quarters of the year, Vietnam-Taiwan (China) trade reached 13 billion USD, up 18% over the same period last year. Of which, Vietnam had a trade deficit of 7.5 billion USD of goods from this market, 1.07 billion USD higher than the same period last year.
Regarding imports, Vietnam spent 10.2 billion USD to import goods from Taiwan (China), up 17% over the same period last year. Computers, electronic products and components were the largest import items with 6 billion USD, up 27% over the same period last year and accounting for 58% of total import turnover.
In addition to computers, electronic products and components, among the 36 main imported items from Taiwan (China), there are 10 imported items with a turnover of over 100 million USD with a total value of 3.5 billion USD.

Vietnam spent 724 million USD to import fabric from this market, up 7% over the same period last year; spent 660 million USD to import machinery, equipment, tools, and other spare parts, up 8% over the same period last year.
Import turnover of raw plastic materials also reached 583 million USD, up 13% over the same period last year; iron and steel with 338 million USD, up 21% over the same period last year; cameras, camcorders and components with 250 million USD, down 0.9% over the same period last year; chemicals with 285 million USD, down 8% over the same period last year; chemical products with 255 million USD, up 17% over the same period last year.
In addition, Vietnam also spent 176 million USD to import textile and footwear materials, down 3% over the same period last year; spent 105 million USD to import textile fibers, up 0.7% over the same period last year; and plastic products with 127 million USD, up 17.9% over the same period last year.
In the agricultural group, Vietnam also imported aquatic products from Taiwan (China) with 76 million USD, up 18% over the same period last year; other food products with 14 million USD, down 13% over the same period last year; animal feed and raw materials with 24 million USD, up 9% over the same period last year. Vietnam spent 57 million USD importing rubber from this market, down 5% over the same period last year; rubber products with 14 million USD, down slightly 0.3% over the same period last year.
Of the 36 main imported items from Taiwan (China), 12 imported items decreased in value and 24 items increased in value compared to the same period last year. Scrap iron and steel had the highest increase with an increase of 187% compared to the same period last year, on the contrary, glass and glass products had the deepest decrease with a decrease of 73% compared to the same period last year.
Regarding exports, Vietnam's goods exported to Taiwan (China) reached 2.72 billion USD in the first half of 2024, up 20% over the same period last year. Vietnam exported 39 main products to this market, of which 6 products reached a turnover of over 100 million USD with a total of 1.58 billion USD, accounting for 27% of total export turnover.
Computers, electronic products and components were the largest export item with 607 million USD, up 21% over the same period last year. Machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts ranked second with 346 million USD, up 22% over the same period last year; phones and components with 213 million USD, up 32% over the same period last year; iron and steel with 189 million USD, up 71% over the same period last year; iron and steel products with 115 million USD, up 93% over the same period last year. Textiles and garments were the only item with a decrease in turnover with a decrease of 7%, to 112 million USD.
Regarding agricultural and aquatic products, Vietnam exported rice to Taiwan (China) reaching 5.8 million USD, down 53% compared to the same period last year. In contrast, cashew nut export turnover increased by 27% compared to the same period last year, to 22 million USD; cassava and cassava products increased by 15% compared to the same period last year, to 15 million USD; vegetables and fruits increased by 14.7% compared to the same period last year, reaching 66 million USD; tea increased by 14% compared to the same period last year, reaching 11.3 million USD...
In the forestry group, Vietnam also exported wood and wood products to Taiwan (China) with 30 million USD, down 12% over the same period last year; paper and paper products with 56 million USD, up 8% over the same period last year; textile fibers with 46 million USD, up 15% over the same period last year...
In the textile and garment group, Vietnam exported footwear to this market with a turnover of 90 million USD, down slightly by 0.1% compared to the same period last year; textile and garment materials and footwear with 14.6 million USD, down 0.6% compared to the same period last year.
