On March 14, the Policy Forum "Vietnam proactively develops the Semiconductor Industry and Artificial Intelligence in the new era" officially took place at NIC Hoa Lac. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the Forum.
The event was organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC), Ministry of Finance in collaboration with Aitomatic (USA), to discuss the development orientation, opportunities and challenges of the global semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries, and propose development orientations for these technology fields for Vietnam.
The forum attracted more than 1,000 delegates, including leaders and senior technology experts from NVIDIA, Meta, IBM, Google, Intel, TSMC, MediaTek, Tokyo Electron, Panasonic, Marvell, etc., along with many businesses from Silicon Valley of the United States, China, Korea, Japan, India, France, Germany, the Netherlands, etc. and Vietnam; especially Vietnamese experts and general engineers working at major technology corporations in the world in the fields of AI and semiconductors.
In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Tam said that the Forum affirmed Vietnam's efforts to gradually participate in the innovation ecosystem and global value chain of the semiconductor and AI industries - two fields considered the "heart" of modern technology and the foundation for the digital economy.
The leaders of the Ministry of Finance proposed that all partners and entities in the semiconductor and AI ecosystem cooperate more closely to go further and make Vietnam an important link in the global semiconductor and AI supply chain.
The Ministry of Finance will continue to synthesize the opinions of delegates and experts throughout the conference, coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to report and propose to the Government and Government leaders key tasks and solutions to promote these two strategic technology sectors.
Delegates attending the Forum
At the Forum, Mr. Christopher Nguyen, CEO and founder of Aitomatic, shared about the compatibility of Vietnam's semiconductor and AI industry development trends with global trends.
Analyzing the key factors that help Vietnam take advantage of advanced technology platforms, thereby increasing its competitiveness in the international arena, Mr. Christopher affirmed that technological autonomy is the key to the strong development of Vietnam's digital economy.
Mr. Michael Kagan (NVIDIA Corporation) and Mr. Suresh Venkatarayalu (Honeywell Corporation) highly appreciated Vietnam's potential to become an R&D center for AI and semiconductors and said that it is necessary to expand international cooperation to maximize technological advantages, catch up with global trends, thereby promoting Vietnamese enterprises towards digital transformation and innovation.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Yen from Soitec shared about advanced microchip packaging technology and emphasized that breakthroughs in the current chip manufacturing process not only reshape the global semiconductor industry but also open up strategic opportunities for domestic enterprises.
Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, spoke at the Forum.
On the Vietnamese business side, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, affirmed the readiness of Vietnamese businesses in transferring technology and building an innovation ecosystem.
Also at the Forum, NIC and its partners announced initiatives for Vietnam to master semiconductor and AI technology; and introduced the Vietnam Innovation Challenge Program 2025 organized by NIC, Meta, AI for Vietnam in collaboration with NVIDIA, Viettel, and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology with the theme "Building an open-source Vietnamese database to serve AI research, development and application".
