VEX Robotics World Championship is an international Robotics tournament held annually in the US and was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest Robotics tournament in 2018. The organizer of this tournament is the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation - a non-profit organization with projects aimed at STEM ( Science , Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) and sustainability. In 2023, the VEX Robotics World Championship will bring together more than 30,000 students from more than 50 countries and 50 states across the US to compete. The Vietnamese delegation participated in the tournament for the first time with 19 teams divided into 2 groups: Primary and Secondary.

At the tournament, the Vietnamese team surprised international friends when they demonstrated their level, confidence and bravery. Surpassing thousands of teams from many countries, 5/19 teams of the Vietnamese team won prizes at the tournament, including 2 teams in the secondary school category and 3 teams in the primary school category. Specifically, 2 teams in the secondary school category won prizes: Penn Chuoi Khoi team, PennSchool, Ho Chi Minh City won the Inspirational prize; AANO team (4768H), Trung Vuong Secondary School, Hanoi won the Excellent Competitive Spirit prize. 3 primary school teams won prizes: Switch team, Vinschool Times City Primary School, Hanoi won the Excellent Design prize; T-rex Bot team, Archimedes Academy Primary School, Hanoi won the Creative prize; TNS Innovation team, True North School and Delta Global School, Hanoi won the Third prize.

To select 19 Vietnamese teams to participate in the VEX Robotics World Championship 2023, STEAM for Vietnam previously coordinated with the American Center (under the US Embassy and Consulate in Vietnam) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology to organize the 2023 National VEX IQ Robotics Championship to select the best teams. The tournament had 162 teams registered to participate with more than 700 contestants from 169 primary and secondary schools in 33 provinces and cities across the country.

Dr. Tran Viet Hung, co-founder of STEAM for Vietnam, shared: “STEAM for Vietnam and its partners are very pleased with the results that the Vietnamese teams have achieved at the VEX Robotics World Championship 2023. This is beyond expectations because the initial goal of the Vietnamese delegation was only to exchange and learn. We hope that more and more Vietnamese students will participate in international competitions. Such initial steps will help them be ready to become global citizens for the future and a high-quality human resource for Vietnam.”

Immediately after the US tour, STEAM for Vietnam and its partners began preparing for the “A Year of Robotics 2024” project and plans to organize Robotics programming classes and the 2024 National VEX IQ Robotics Championship in Vietnam, aiming for the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship.
