When and where will Vietnam play Thailand?

Thailand won a hard-fought match to reach the final of the 2024 AFF Cup.

Thailand lost 1-2 in the first leg of the semi-final on December 27th. Therefore, in the second leg, the team from the Land of Smiles needed to win by at least two goals to secure a direct spot in the 2024 AFF Cup final. The "War Elephants" were very close to advancing, leading 2-0 after more than 80 minutes of play. However, the Philippines unexpectedly narrowed the score to 1-2 in the 84th minute. The aggregate score was then 3-3, and the two teams had to go into 30 minutes of extra time.

After a goalless first period of extra time, the Thai team played exceptionally well in the second. Suphanat Mueanta, coming on as a substitute, knew how to shine at the right moment, heading the ball into the net in the 116th minute. This precious goal secured a 4-3 aggregate victory for the "War Elephants" against the Philippines after two legs. Thus, the Thai team will face the Vietnamese team in the final of the 2024 AFF Cup.

In their most recent encounter in a friendly match in September, the Vietnamese team lost to Thailand 1-2.

The 2024 AFF Cup final will also consist of two legs, home and away. The first leg of the final will take place at 8 PM on January 2, 2025, when the Vietnamese national team hosts Thailand at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ).

The second leg of the final will take place at 8 PM on January 5, 2025, when coach Kim Sang-sik's team will play away at Rajamangala Stadium.

The clash between Vietnam and Thailand is considered a dream final in the regional tournament. The two teams have a long history of rivalry and have always been strong competitors in Southeast Asia. In the most recent AFF Cup in 2022, the Vietnamese team, under coach Park Hang-seo, lost to Thailand in the final with an aggregate score of 2-3 (2-2 draw in the first leg, 0-1 loss in the second leg).
