With the highest achievement at the international pastry and bread competition “Battle of The Pastry & Bakery” 2025, Vietnamese chefs not only marked a remarkable step forward for the Vietnamese bakery industry, but also affirmed their increasingly solid integration capacity on the international culinary map.

The “Battle of The Pastry & Bakery” 2025 competition took place from July 18-20 in Penang, Malaysia. This is a culinary “playground” organized by the Penang-Malaysia Chefs Association, under the professional sponsorship of Worldchefs - the world's leading prestigious professional organization in the culinary field.

The event gathered more than 400 chefs from countries and territories such as: Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, China, Korea, Vietnam...

The Vietnamese chef delegation of 15 contestants was organized and led by the Saigon Chef Association (under the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association) and the Vietnam Bakery Association (under the Vietnam Tourism Association).

Contestants compete in many categories, from wedding cakes, iced cakes, bread art, chocolate sculptures to elaborate sugar decorations.

Vietnamese chefs demonstrated their bravery, careful preparation and high team spirit.

During the 3 consecutive days of competition, the Vietnamese team demonstrated their bravery, thorough preparation and high team spirit. Surpassing strong opponents from many Asian countries, the Vietnamese chef team won a total of 16 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals, 11 Bronze Medals and 2 prestigious Cups.

In particular, chef Duong Minh Tri has excellently brought home 3 individual Gold Medals and was honored with the Best Chef Cup of the competition. The overall championship cup also belongs to Vietnam, the result shows the uniformity and prominence of the contestants in all categories.

Head Judge - Chef Kenny Kong from Singapore highly appreciated the dedication, team spirit and "inspiring" working style of the Vietnamese chefs.

“They have worked tirelessly to demonstrate the skills honed through rigorous training and practice, thereby creating creative cakes,” Mr. Kenny Kong emphasized.

More than medals, winning the competition also affirms the position of Vietnamese baking on the international culinary map.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh, Vice President of Vietnam Tourism Association, President of Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, personally welcomed the delegation back at Tan Son Nhat airport: “I am very moved to welcome such a dedicated, talented and passionate group. You have brought great joy and pride to the Vietnamese tourism and culinary industry. Your achievements are not only a victory for the Vietnamese baking industry, but also contribute to affirming the position of Vietnamese cuisine in the regional arena”.

Not only medals, the victory in Malaysia is also the pride of Vietnamese chefs, affirming the position of Vietnamese baking industry - an industry that is gradually improving, standing shoulder to shoulder with culinary powers in the region and the world.
