The workshop brought together more than 70 delegates from government agencies, state-owned enterprises, international organizations and the private sector to promote sustainable energy strategies in Vietnam.
The event was attended by units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade such as the Electricity Department, the Department of Innovation, the Institute of Energy; large corporations such as EVN, PVN, PVGas, PTSC and international experts in the field of clean energy.
In particular, DNV - a global risk management and quality assurance group from Norway, gave in-depth presentations on offshore wind power, hydrogen, energy storage and carbon capture technology.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Electricity Authority - Tran Hoai Trang emphasized: "Vietnam is facing great challenges in energy transition but also sees clear opportunities for sustainable development. Developing renewable energy, especially wind power and solar power, is an inevitable direction to ensure energy security, meet commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to climate change."
According to a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Government has been perfecting the legal framework to promote the development of clean energy sources, including offshore wind power, and at the same time aims to bring the total capacity of renewable energy sources to more than 122,000 MW by 2030, accounting for more than 51% of total power sources, a figure far exceeding the forecast of the Power Plan VIII.
Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam Hilde Solbakken affirmed Norway’s commitment to accompany Vietnam on its green transition journey. “DNV’s global knowledge and experience will make a positive contribution to a low-emission and sustainable future for Vietnam,” she said.
Mr. Brice Le Gallo, Vice President and Regional Director of Asia- Pacific of DNV, commented that Vietnam is emerging as a renewable energy hub in the region. Meanwhile, Mr. Hagsung Kim, Vice President of Global Business Development of DNV, emphasized the role of digital solutions in accelerating the energy transition to be more efficient and smarter.
