On June 20th, more than 20 government agencies, businesses, and universities joined forces to establish the Au Lac AI Alliance. The alliance was formed in the context of the Prime Minister's recent issuance of Decision 1131/2025, which identifies 11 strategic technology groups with profound impacts on the nation's competitiveness and technological self-reliance, with AI ranked number one.
The initial members of the alliance included: Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, VNPT, FPT, CMC , BKAV, Misa, MoMo, VNPAY, Zalo, MobiFone, AI For Vietnam...
The Au Lac AI Alliance was established with the aim of developing large-scale language models (LLMs) capable of processing Vietnamese accurately, naturally, and in accordance with Vietnamese culture and identity.
The alliance also aims to build an open and transparent AI community where individuals, organizations, and businesses can freely access and use source code, data, and other resources, including for commercial purposes.
Launch Ceremony of the Au Lac AI Alliance
At the launch event, the Au Lac AI Alliance proposed developing the Au Lac Vietnamese-Large Language Model (LLM) as a foundation for building AI applications for end users.
Here,FPT announced its plan to develop VietGPT – a virtual assistant specifically designed for every Vietnamese citizen, based on the Vietnamese language model.
VietGPT is a virtual assistant with a deep understanding of Vietnamese culture, society, language, and thinking, meeting the learning, research, and productivity and work quality needs of Vietnamese people at an affordable cost. Through interaction with users, products like VietGPT help optimize and enhance model capabilities, as well as share models, data, and experiences with the community.
Mr. Le Hong Viet, General Director of FPT Smart Cloud - FPT Group, emphasized that for AI technology to become a core national strength, Vietnam needs to both participate in the global open-source community and build its own open-source community, thereby mastering the technology and language.
FPT will connect domestic systems, opening up a platform for Vietnamese businesses to contribute to and utilize VietGPT. This will be implemented this year.
Globally, approximately 70 countries, including the US, China, and South Korea, are focusing on developing national AI strategies. The establishment of the Au Lac AI Alliance opens a new chapter in the development of AI in Vietnam and contributes to affirming Vietnam's position on the global technology map.
