Vietnam Airlines is the only Vietnamese airline on the list of the world's best airlines, according to AirlineRatings announced on May 31.
Topping the list are: Air New Zealand, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways. Considering the total score of 7 evaluation categories, Vietnam Airlines ranked 20th on the list. The airline has a young and modern fleet with Boeing 787-9/ 787-10 Dreamliner, Airbus A350-900 XWB, Airbus A321neo...; average age of 7 years.
This year, AirlineRatings' criteria for ranking include: safety, governance, fleet age, passenger rating, investment rating, service quality and employment.
AirlineRatings, based in Australia, rates the safety and service quality of more than 435 airlines worldwide. Since the awards were launched in 2014, the scoring and category structure have evolved to reflect the changing dynamics of the industry and customer expectations.

AirlineRatings assessed that the in-flight experience of Vietnam Airlines passengers has been improved thanks to the expansion of the wireless-streaming entertainment system with the new generation narrow-body fleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft; the increase in the number of entertainment programs on wide-body Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
The unit continuously introduces and upgrades products and services, quickly restores domestic and international flights, meets the increased demand of passengers after the pandemic, contributes to promoting trade, economic development, and socio-culture between countries.
Regarding ground services, the company became the first airline in Vietnam to apply online check-in service across the entire domestic airport network. After completing the online check-in process, passengers will receive their boarding pass via electronic device or can print their own pass, then go straight to the security check gate, exit the aircraft without having to go to the airline's check-in counter.
The airline also offers a variety of check-in methods: telephone check-in in Vietnam, kiosk check-in at the airport and online check-in. In addition, the "Meet and Greet" service provides special assistance to passengers.

Flights also promote Vietnamese culture and tourism through publications, video presentations or meals featuring regional cuisine and unique flavors. The long-haul experience is further enhanced by seat covers and double-layer quilted blankets in Business Class.
Vietnam Airlines representative said that in the coming time, the airline will continue to build a development strategy in parallel with environmental protection, change the packaging of items, replace plastic straws with paper straws; replace disposable plastic knives, spoons, and forks with recyclable products.
On May 26, the airline completed the "Sustainable Flight Challenge" launched by the SkyTeam Airline Alliance with flight number VN37 from Hanoi to Frankfurt (Germany), giving out bags recycled from old life jackets, serving meals from sustainable food and calling on passengers to bring personal items instead of using disposable items on the flight. The activity aims to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2025.
