According to information from the California State Energy Agency, in 2024, VinFast , an electric car company from Vietnam, sold a total of 2,679 cars, including the VF 8 and VF 9 models in this state, an increase of nearly 6 times compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, 2,636 VF 8s and 43 VF 9s were newly registered in the most populous state of the US in 2024. VinFast's sales have surpassed a series of electric car names from Lucid, Polestar, Hummer, Genesis, Acura.
The results were achieved thanks to the strategy of expanding the dealer network and applying flexible policies suitable to consumer needs.
VinFast VF 8 was introduced to the US market in 2023. Since then, the first batch of VF 8 has been almost sold out. At the end of November 2024, the first VF 9 cars were delivered to customers at VinFast's headquarters in Los Angeles.
VinFast VF 9 sold in the US has 2 versions with prices of 69,800 USD for the Eco version (1.77 billion VND) and 73,800 USD for the Plus version (1.87 billion VND).
Recently, the US newspaper Autoblog reported that VinFast will bring two new electric models, the VF 6 and VF 7, to this market. The crossovers will appeal to American consumers on a tight budget, with prices starting at $30,000 for the VF 6 (about 755 million VND) and $37,000 for the VF 7 (about 931 million VND).
The pair of Vietnamese branded cars are expected by Autoblog to be among the low-cost electric cars for the masses. The official launch date is currently unknown. At that time, the two hottest SUV models of VinFast are likely to help increase sales even more.
“The US market is like a test. If we can enter the most difficult market, then entering other markets will be simple and easy. And for new companies, startups like VinFast, we have to set very high and strict goals,” Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, Chairman of Vingroup , the parent company of VinFast, shared at the 2020 annual shareholders' meeting.
VinFast's US dealer system currently has over 25 locations, covering 13 states, including California, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois, New York, Kansas, Connecticut and Kentucky.
In addition, VinFast also provides car rental services, in line with the trend of renting first, buying later of American consumers. The company has cooperated with US Bank, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and other financial institutions to support this service.
